Or how about this? In the beginning of Thundercats, the characters think they're escaping Thundera by travelling through space, but they're really just travelling to the past. They go back in time and establish their new empire only for Mumm-Ra to show up and blow the planet up again. They're all trapped in a stable time loop of death.
