I guess it all falls into the work in question. I do admit to being in that "serious = good" thought pattern but that is only because some works don't suit my tastes.

"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."Well, some of my favourite books (visible on my Troper page) are hilarious and ridiculous at times, that is to say, not entirely "serious", but can indeed carry a "serious" message beneath the humour. I think that I would take that statement to mean that, irrespective of the tone of the work, a work with a deeper meaning is art, whereas a work with no non-literal point to make is mostly entertainment. I wouldn't, however, say that "entertainment", by such a definition, is no good, or that all "art", by the same definition, must be good.

People feel that they have to justify their hobbies beyond "this amuses me". This is a bad thing, but what can you do.
Fight smart, not fair.
Really, I find the notion that children's entertainment shouldn't have serious themes to be downright terrifying. It's incredibly disrespectful to the audience, who contrary to popular executive belief are actually rather intelligent and attentive about things they care about.
