Agreed. Even if we renamed the trope today (which I am against) there would still be people misusing it because of lingering older missue. We have to clean up the old missue and then remain vigilant because there will be lag time between the article clean up/wick clean up and the troper Hive Mind as a whole getting the message.

Lingering misuse is often (albeit not exclusively) associated with previous names; often times a rename can give a fresh new start to a trope.

I highly doubt a rename is going to help more than it would hurt. And I don't think we should be discussing this. The trs started to see if a merge with Batman Gambit should be done or not. Now the issue is over, so we should close this thread as soon it's confirmed that the wiks have been cleaned.

Someone did holler for a lock a few pages back, and I left it open because the wicks hadn't been fixed yet. I'm beginning to think that was the wrong decision.

Wick cleanup is usually a subject for Special Efforts, so we wouldn't have needed this thread. At any rate, best to lock it now.
Under normal circumstances, we are supposed to leave TRS threads open until the wicks have been fixed; this makes it more likely that the wicks actually will get fixed. These, however, aren't normal circumstances.
