And those teams lost with Manning as the QB. Just saying.

Another fun fact along those lines: Colin Kaepernick has more road play off wins than Joe Montana and Steve Young combined.

ESPN stats are fun.

Did someone slip some Valium into the Broncos' Gatorade or something?

Even if I had been home instead of at work I probably wouldn't have watched but what I've seen and heard since then makes me think that the only thing "super" about this 'Bowl is "super-embarrassing" for Denver.

Welp, Sherman was pretty classy and funny post game. Not bad, man.

Anyway, who is gonna be the number one overall pick? Bridgewater? Manziel? Clowny?

More ESPN stats! The QB who breaks the single season passing yards record has never won the Super Bowl if that year.

Passing attack confirmed as useless.

We already have personnel movement and Seattle's victory is naught but three days old.

Matt Cassel is reportedly going to void his contract and become a free agent.Considering that he's a better option than Freeman or Ponder right now but he still wants to get the hell out of dodge, I kind of expect Minnesota to take a QB in the 1st round this year.

Atlanta has cut both CB Asante Samuel and LB Stephen Nicolas.

In other news, CBS will be broadcasting 8 of next years's Thursday night games. That's right, now you can get slightly more than half of next year's TNF games without paying NFL Network. It's a good move, but I still don't see a lot of people tuning in. Thursday's kind of a weird night for most people anyway.

Johnathan Vilma doesn't like the idea of having gay teammates. He said "Grown men should not have female tendencies. Period."

When people made a backlash, he said "So of course the homosexual men get sensitive to my tweet bad respond all ticked off. RELAX. I was not referring to you guys."

Vilma may not have been a villain in Bountygate... okay, yeah, he was. He was the leading perpetrator of Bountygate, and now he's a come out as a homophobe and a male chauvinist.

Please throw him out, Goodell.

Here is an extremely interesting read by Dead Spin called "The Big Book of Black Quarterbacks." It is an attempt by the author to list all starting black quarterbacks, their stats and their careers (dependent upon length) in the NFL from its beginnings all the way to Russell Wilson and Geno Smith. It stemmed from a talk the author had with his father about Doug Williams, the first black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl. As a note to all who may want to read this, make sure you have some free time before starting. I started reading this about 20 min ago and have only just reached Donovan Mc Nabb and Aliki Smith, which according to the slider on the side of the site, is only halfway.

I feel this is worthy of a double post.

Michael Sam, a defensive end from Missouri, SEC defensive player of the year, and a projected 3rd to 4th round draft pick in the coming draft, has announced he's gay. If he's picked, he will be the 1st openly gay player in the NFL.

I'm honestly really curious at how this is going to play out. I want him to get drafted, but with attitudes like the following:

"SI.com polled eight NFL personnel executives and coaches, and said that all eight "believed that Sam's announcement will cause him to drop in the draft."

"I just know with this going on this is going to drop him down," a veteran NFL scout told SI.com. "There's no question about it. It's human nature. Do you want to be the team to quote-unquote 'break that barrier?'"

I just don't see the prevailing attitude in the NFL allowing this to happen. It's sad really. We, as a species, should be better than this.

Unfortunately, the economics of the situation says they're right. Teams, even ones with relatively patient fans like Green Bay or Pittsburgh, have a powerful short-term incentive to win. To that extent, a team has an interest in avoiding locker room distractions, and being the first openly gay NFL player could be one heck of a distraction. Not to mention, even if a GM looked past the issue to his pure football potential, he would still drop because if the GM was smart he would recognize that other teams will be dropping him, and assume they will be able to get him with a later pick.

Teams just don't want the media circus that will come with him. It's one the main reasons why people are so hesitant to give Tebow a chance.

Also because Tebow sucks.

This was a very risky move by Michael Sam. The fact that Vilma came out against having gay teammates really makes me think he'll go undrafted. On the other hand, Richie Incognito spoke in support of him.

Lemme quote Jayar Jackson: "I think, in ten or fifteen years, this will be acceptable. Right now, it's not. Something's gotta start sooner or later. Nothing changes when you just say it'll happen sometime in the future when you have nothing to do with it and you can't be a part of it. That's cowardly."

Don't you usually do something like that before you hire your coach? Also, don't you hire someone externally if your organization is that dysfunctional?

The Ted Wells report on the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito hazing case has been officially released.

The full 148 page report can be viewed in PDF form here. As a word of warning, it contains many racial slurs and epithets and a large amount of offensive language.

Darren Sharper, former safety of the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints, has been charged with two rapes using drugs in the state of California. He is also a suspect in 5 additional rape cases involving drugs in Tempe, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; and New Orleans, Louisiana. He has been suspended indefinitely without pay from his job at the NFL Network.

I know that I really shouldn't soap-boxing here, but look at the hypocrisy of the NFL. It's OK for us to have players on our teams who are animal abusers, "alleged" murderers, actual murderers, serial rapists, baby-killers and drug addicts and a lot of people don't seem to have a problem with that. But the second a prospective player says he likes another man as his sexual preference, the entire system goes batshit insane, and for all purposes he's become a "locker room distraction."

Really? This is where we're at right now, NFL?

@Jason La Canfora: MIA has been gauging trade value for '13 1st round pick Dion Jordan, league sources said, after trading up to 3rd overall for him last year
It's a LaCanfora tweet so skepticism should be applied, but combining this with rumors swirling about regarding the Dolphins dealing Mike Wallace and Cameron Wake...this is what happens when G Ms gamble with a "master plan".

In other news, Greg Hardy got franchise-tagged and Jeremy Maclin got signed to a 1 year deal

[up]Also of note, Eagles Receiver Riley Cooper signed a 5 year deal, Center Jason Kelce signed a 6(7?) year deal, and Eagles Left Tackle Jason Peters signed a five year deal. All of this happened within the last 72 hrs.

That's Eagles GM Howie Roseman getting shit done.
