Well, the vikings made out like bandits. Xavier Rhodes was one of the better cornerbacks here at Florida Stae(and given FSU is almost always near the top in defensive stats, that's saying something!) Also, managin to grab 3 first round licks to build up both defensive positions AND a wide reciever for Christian Ponder to throw at means they're serious this year!

I must say. I at least approve of Reids hawaiian shirt.

Also. we definitely needed better pass rush defense, so Fisher looks like a damned intimidating pick.

The deal, which runs through the 2019 season, is for $110 million over five years, with $62 million in the first three years and a whopping $40 million in the first year."

Aaron Rodgers becomes the highest paid player in football with a $22 million a year salary.

And the Cardinals take Tyrann "Honey Badger" Mathieu. Maybe his former teammate Peterson can keep his drug habits in check.

And the Jets are next to pick. Maybe they'll pick Barkley now.

EDIT: guess not

Well, 2nd and 3rd round are in the books.

Just have to say

2nd Round - Johnathan Cyprien: Solid pick by Caldwell, it fills a need and he's from an in-state university.

3rd Round - Dwayne Gratz: I know he fits what Gus wants in a cornerback, but seriously...who?

2nd round – Eddie Lacy: Yeah, the Packers need a running back and I'm a little surprised he fell to us. From an romantic standpoint I would have preferred Montee Ball, and there are some health concerns, but I'm hopeful.

3rd round – nothing. Ted Thompson traded down twice (plus once in the 2nd round) to stockpile an insane number of third-day picks: two 4's, three 5's, two 6's, and three 7's.

Pittsburgh has taken a OLB, a RB, and a WR... Those are three positions they needed(though I'd have preferred a DB over a WR), so I'm pretty okay with the draft thus far.

I don't really bother deciding before, or during, the draft which players are good/great/crap... As it's mostly a crap-shoot in the end, anyway. So long as my team drafts the positions it needs, they should come out ahead(and Pittsburgh usually does).

That said, I'm getting more and more amused by the Jets as the draft goes along. Since Barkley and Nassib still hasn't been taken, they're still available for the Jets to nab in the fourth round. And why not? They're only 5 QBs away from fielding an offense made entirely of one position...

On a side-note, the NFC West has gotten interesting. With St. Louis grabbing the duo from West Virginia(Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey), "The Greatest Show On Turf" may be back...

So, a running back and a defensive tackle? I didn't think running back was a position of need, but defensive tackle was one of the three positions where the Hawks could plausably draft a starter (the other two being weak side linebacker and right tackle). I'm not overly worried about the remaining positions. The front office here has almost as many late round picks as the Packers (only one fewer fourth round pick), and a bit of a reputation for working magic in the late rounds.

2nd round:We got Zach Ertz, TE from Stanford. Kelly wants to stockpile up TE's and the best way to do that is to get another big TE to add to our already nice compliment of Brent Celek and James Casey. Seems he'll be going the Bill Belichick route of big tight ends and lots of them. Ertz models his playstyle after Cowboys TE Jason Witten, which is nice because he's one of the few players on the Cowboys I respect and like to watch when playing, and he's (Witten) also very consistent. I really look forward to seeing what Ertz can do in Kelly's system.

3rd round: Bennie Logan, DT from LSU. Quite a few fans of the Eagles expected us to take the other player from LSU Tyrann Mathieu at this spot, but I'm glad we didn't. Mathieu didn't fit the positional need at cornerback the Eagles had, and we lost quite a few defensive linemen, so this was definitely a needed pick. He's big for his size, and would have likely been considered a 1st round pick had he ever put together a consistent season. However, he seems to be a very high character guy, as he was one of the few LSU players awarded the #18 jersey which according to the LSU website "which is given to the player who best exemplifies what it means "to be a Tiger on and off the field."." At least we wont have to worry about any character concerns with this guy.

Overall, I like this draft for my team. Definitely would have liked to have seen a bit more of an exciting pick, but the guys we have taken are very good, and honestly I don't think there's that much I can complain about. I'd actually like to see us pick up a QB in the next round, because I really think at this point the QB's available are worth spending a lower ranking draft pick on, and plus, we need a backup for Foles and the other guy.

Edit:Reportedly, Jason Garrett wanted to take Sharrif Floyd (eventually taken at #23 by the Vikings) at 18 last night. He was overruled by Jerry and Stephen Jones, and that's why he appeared quite upset when the camera of the Cowboys war room was shown when they picked Travis Fredrick. It may explain why the pick caused such a "concern" among fans when it was made.

Checking /r/49ers for my specific draft news. Niners have picked up DE Tank Carradine (everyone seems happy about this; more importantly, the rest of the NFC west hates this), TE Vance Mc Donald (everyone seems to be accepting of this since he's a huge, blocking tight end), DE Corey Lemonier (people are saying he's a pass rusher, and I'm super down for having a proper rotation on the defensive line), WR Quinton Patton (people are saying he should have gone higher and the Niners pulled black magic to get him at 128), and RB Marcus Lattimore (everyone was even happier/madder about this than Tank)

It also seems that the running theme for the Niners this year is that we're drafting dudes coming off injuries which is pretty smart. We don't really have immediate needs so they can all take a couple weeks to even the full year to get therapied and whatever.

Also it looks like the 49ers have decided to stockpile 10 picks for next year. Harbaalke is clearly incompetent for not getting 14 again.

And despite Gus saying that the QB competition would be between Gabbert, Henne and a rookie QB, the Jags have not drafted any QBs

I guess we're signing an UDFA.

I can just imagine it: "Garrard takes the snap, shovel pass back to Sanchez, lobs it laterally to Smith, passes back to Tebow, who sends it to the other side of the field to Mc Elroy, back to Smith, who gets a WIDE OPEN TEBOW for...10 yards."

Matt Scott is a pretty good pickup. He's someone who a lot of Seahawks fans, including myself had liked as a potential backup to Wilson. He'll do fine, and he might end up winning the starting job soon enough.

The offseason hasn't even fully begun and people are picking sides. It's gonna be a long offseason for Gabbert.
