Aside from the Runey system in Frontier, it's actually a fantastic game. The Runey system stops being a pain in the ass once you get the hang of it and the payoffs for its suffering are worth it (but it still sucks :P)

Animal Parade does come highly recommended. But it is huge. If you want something a bit smaller and more manageable, the two GBA games are a good place to start. More Friends of Mineral Town was my introduction to the series, and I dig it lots. It's got plenty of content, but you won't drown in it like can happen with some of the other games.

No, Frontier is amazing. It's just...I mean, imagine you're new to the franchise. Would you really think Frontier is the best place to start? It's fucking HUGE. [lol]

The more I play Tides, the more I like this new farming system. I would have at least like to have been able to choose what crops I plant, but aside from that...I dunno. It's nice to not have to waste your day watering. All you need are some monsters. And instead of buying crops, you just buy Monster Cookies to feed your workers. Instead of sewing then planting, you just use the wand.

It definitely took some getting used to, and as I said before, I don't want it in Rune Factory 4, but I like it. Either way you have to be thankful that they're saying "Hey, why don't we try to spice up the formula?"

Also it does make sense that this is how farming would work in a fantasy Harvest Moon...plus is Aden a....er...Earth...something? Maybe that's why he can't plant...he has magic. I assume Annoyingbitch(Forget her name, but this fits) will be one once she gets her body back, because her soul was in Aden's body. Or they might not bother explaining it. -shrug-

I think the wonderful life games will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first HM/RF game I have ever played. So I will always respectfully disagree with someone who hates them. Also @ s 5555 i'm the one who started the thread and I'm a dude.

I find that generally if someone likes the Wonderful Life series it is because they started with them. I have yet to find someone who didn't start with them who likes them.

Honestly, I don't even know what it is about A Wonderful Life that I dislike. It's not like it's wildly different from other games in the franchise. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

God you know what HM game I really hate? Save the Homeland.

I DO NOT LIKE IT WHEN MY SIMULATION GAMES HAVE FUCKING TIME LIMITS, THAT DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE.

I started with Friends of Mineral Town, and still liked Wonderful Life.

It's a bit of an Oddball in the Series, but it's not really bad at all. It did many things wrong, but it also featured some ideas that I did like.

Wonderful Life was my first HM game. I was....probably around 6-8 when I played it. My dad would say "This is so boring!" but my aunt(who's only three years my senior)and I would say "No, it's so much fun!" or "But I love taking care of my farm and animals!"...[lol]...

My sister's first game was Wonderful Life. It was mine too, but I didn't like how difficult it was to make money. It put me off the series for a while until she got super-into it, and made me decide to look at the others since, hey, HM 64 had always looked way fun...

Save The Homeland was a strange game. I realized fairly quickly that you don't actually have to do any farming. Just go around talking to the right people and you'll end up finding out what you need to do to get one of the endings. It wasn't bad, exactly, it was just... strange. And had little replay value, despite the multiple endings.

It was pretty awful.

Again, Animal Parade is just the best. I have no idea why, it just seems to get everything right.

Although I've never been partial to the "one bag of seeds = one plant" method. It takes forever.

Seriously, I'm fine with paying more for seeds if I can buy enough to cover one big area all at once. Or even if you just automatically bought them in packs of 9 or something.

Do the newer Harvest Moon games allow you to walk on your plants even after they sprout? The only HM style game I've played that had that was Rune Factory, which meant that when you planted seeds, you could harvest all 9 plants. All the others I've played (which I admit isn't many, mostly the SNES one, and Fo MT) didn't allow you to walk on plants, so I had to do that method of leaving a space unplowed so I could at least harvest a bit faster.

Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft instead

Yes, the newer ones let you walk over your plants. At least Animal Parade does.

I'm thinking of playing AWL again to make sure my glasses are not rose-tinted, and I am going to finish it. So, for people that have played it before, who should I marry. I think I might marry Muffy but I thought I would ask you guys. Any thoughts?

I always feel bad for Muffy, though. She doesn't get to marry Griffin in AWL like she does in the DS game. I birefly pursued Nami myself in that game.

I suppose. Never married her myself. There aren't a whole lot of unhappy player marriages in HM land, though, unless you actively seek to abuse your spouse. Most of them are pretty affectionate, if sometimes in their own ways.

So I feel stupid, but I cannot beat the first boss. I only got past his normal mode once - and that was mostly through luck at staying out of his whirlwind. Because once the whrilwind lands one hit, he can pretty much OHKO me.

The one time I got to the "rage" mode, he moved too fast for me to kill him.

Help?

What game? If it rf3 then, all you can do is level grind or bring tons of pickled turnips or a companion.
