From... 3 States away?

~snort~

Besides, efficient government has always been my argument. "Spend lots of money!" doesn't mean "Spend lots of money on useless shit!" Don't break windows (or, what that really means, don't start wars), build something useful, like good transportation grids, alternative energy construction, internet... stuff... and whatnot.

Sort of. As I understand it, Obama botched it somehow. I guess Tomu will fill in that gap...

Obama botched nothing.

The private sector is the failure. Funny how much faith the free market is given after it fails.

Obama botched nothing.

Then he wouldn't have trouble selling his jobs plan to Congress, least of all his own party many of whom have doubts and concerns about it.

[up]No, of course he's gonna face opposition, he's a black Democrat.

[up]I think the fact he's a Democrat is more important to them than the color of his skin.

Oh, the black thing is just a bonus.

From day 1 he faced the fiercest opposition to a President ever.

And Ford didn't even win an election.

The first stimulus was way too small and too much tax cuts.

The second stimulus is ... well, probably also too small, but it's big enough that even Krugman signed on board to it. And it's made up entirely of bipartisan ideas. If Congress refuses to accept it, it's on them.

Obviously, if it gets through the house unharassed and the senate votes it down, it'll be a dark day to be a Democrat.

Don't hate on Ford. He got handed a steaming pile of shit and made due with what he had.

Ah, that's right. It was tax cuts, not actual stimulus. I knew it was somehow done poorly...

[up] Because it's mostly budget cuts, I think. Or something to that effect.

Well, we mostly accidentally purged the Blue Dog DIN Os when the Tea Party moved in, but there's still a few Democrats in name only, that don't have the sense to actually agree to democratic ideals, and instead play politics. Prime Cult of Centrismites I would think.

Again though, I think a lot of those guys got ousted in 2010.

Seeing "Herman Cain" and "the racist card is obsolete" in the same sentence makes me lol.

If Cain gets the GOP nomination, be prepared for a "Funny Aneurysm" Moment and/or Old Shame on your part over that statement.

The racism card is obsolete, a black man has been elected President (despite being a shitty one), that right there is proof there's no real obstacles to black folks succeeding except themselves. If a black man raised in poverty can become President, anyone can do similar.

It gets funnier if Cain does get the nomination since the race card becomes hilariously ineffective. Cain is blacker than Obama heritage wise.

Though perhaps we should take this to the elections thread?

Ummm Tom, Cain is a racist. Just towards Muslims. That's why it's funny.

But yes, on topic.

...

This rarely works on people, but... "You're going to spend the money either way. Take healthcare. You can spend tons of money paying for all those people that make up the bureaucracy since insurance companies are private entities that are for-profit, or we could have the government run it at-cost and lower the general burden on all of you—both as individuals and as business owners. Oh, and since more people will be in the system, quite a few of those people who lose their private jobs can be hired by the new program eventually, and since they're already trained we save money on work-related education."

...

That argument was better in my head. Oh well.

Edit: for the record, that's the argument that, pretty much convinced me. Courtesy of this board, actually. I can't recall exactly who, specifically, made this broad argument, but...

Tomu@The racist isn't the correct term for being bias against Muslims because its a religion not a race. However,I remember Cain did apologize for it but no one paid attention after he went to a Islamic Convention.

On topic:I am wondering why in the heck is it called Keynesian.

Why am I not surprised it came from Europe and our long standing ally Britain?

Because back then the only academia taken seriously was European.

No, seriously. Not because Europe was more liberal than the US (although at that point it kind of was), but because even if an American (or anybody else, for that matter) had suggested the idea, the (mostly European) academic world would have ignored it.
