need a better image: Breaking The Fourth Wall

The image is the last two panels of a four panel strip, I had to remove the first two to get the size down. Check the link to see the whole thing.

If you just use the right panel people will have no idea who the statement ("They're staring right at you!") refers to.

Exactly; the 2-panel version works fine.

A real-life picture with a character clearly popping out of the medium they're supposed to be contained in to say "hello" to the audience watching them? Clearly an example of breaking the fourth wall, if a bit more literally than needed.

Yup. You can create a crowner, link to it in a post, and then Holler that post to get the crowner hooked.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Well, so far the results have been...unexpected. Either there are a lot of people that really like the current image, really hate the possible replacements, or something involving socks..

I don't think that's unexpected at all. Consensus in the thread seems to be "current is fine". It's an example, but there are lots of examples. The other suggestions are okay, but they're not better, merely different.
