The Ikko-Ikki basically ARE an organized monk rebellion with support from all ranks of society. Makes sense the Monk Rebels are around them.

Archery and gunnery are kings in Gekokujo because of the lack of shields. It's like the total opposite of Brytenwalda where everyone but the peasants has a shield. I always use an archer character in Geko, and I only have enough infantry to keep the enemies from closing in on my archers while they shoot. Linking up with the Takeda and training their Samurai troops to their highest rank gets you Hatamoto archers, which are elites. They can destroy armies from afar and aren't too shabby at melee when they need to engage in it.

I'm going Changdao (replaced with a Balanced Masamune Nodachi for unmounted battles like sieges) + the 210-length couchable Yari + the fastest 60+ damage gun I can get. Sure, the gun's just one shot on horseback, but after that, it's sword o'clock anyway.

Honestly, I'm not minding the lack of shields - I didn't use them on horseback in Native (1H swords are too short for my tastes) and their absence in sieges is a small price to pay for not wasting my lance charges on splintering shields.

Also, does the Changdao just not come in a balanced version? I get negative modifiers and heavy, which is basically negative in this case, but I don't think I've seen any masterwork Chinese weapons and I've only seen balanced and tempered on the other Chinese weapons (three different versions of Wodao, Liaudao, and Guandao).

For my army, I'm looking to go almost all cavalry and gunner, so rolling Oda is really nice (Oda gets Hatamoto cavalry and gunners plus their Ashigaru elites are skirmishers, and Oda skirmishers use bows instead of guns), save for the monk infestation on their lands. On top of that, if I do want archers, I can use nearby Asakura lands to get Hatamoto archers.

When I am Shogun, I swear that I'm gonna outlaw Buddhism in response to this. Seriously, nice job ruining Buddhism for everyone else, assholes. Gonna sell all their lands to Kirishitans or something, since at least they haven't wronged me this badly so far.

If it weren't for the fact that Warband won't run for me I'd find this mod myself xD Sounds fun.

Did you try uninstalling the game, making sure that the Mount and Blade Waband directory is completely removed, then reinstalling?

Or for a lazier way, going into the directory, manually deleting everything in it (ctrl-a then del), and then verifying the cache (Steam should notice that there is nothing in the folder and redownload everything) should get the same effect.

Sometimes, just verifying the cache doesn't catch everything, but usually reinstalling does the trick.

I'll see if my Mac even has anything like that.

I don't see how it wouldn't - the Mac OS uses a folder structure like Windows and Linux do.

Just go to steam, open the Mount and Blade Warband properties and find "browse local files" to open the Mount and Blade Warband folder. Select everything, and delete it, then verify the cache.

Or Steam should give you an option to delete all local content, but that often misses content like mods that might be presenting problems.

Also, do you know if Viking Conquest works on Mac? It's unplayable on Linux. That's not hyperbole for "oh, it's kinda slow" or "I don't like some balance decisions" or "London should be three pixels further north", it's literally unplayable because the game crashes to desktop almost every time I enter any town/village/castle or talk to people.

Yeah, none of the mods I downloaded would run, even before it stopped working.

Did it just not start with them, or were they not even available in the configuration tool? Because if it was the former, I got nothing. If it's the latter, the workshop mods are probably not getting moved to the modules folder (I have the same problem). To solve that, find them wherever Steam stores workshop content (I can't recall the exact directory, but you will likely be looking at a lot of folders with names consisting of five to seven numbers) and copy it to the modules folder in the Mount and Blade Warband directory.

They didn't start. I'd select them in the file thing but they wouldn't even get to the main menu; it would start to run, then crash.

Well, in that case, I'm stumped. Maybe if reinstalling fixes Native, the mods will actually work, too.

I found the most fucked up mod I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Stone and Fist. It drops all weapons but stones, and gives you a few different flavors of unrealistic stones. Including a horse stone you can throw that's pretty much a life-size statue of a fucking horse.

Armor is messed up in this. You're better off sticking to Native's low tier armor because the high stuff is nerfed hard til it's a waste of money. It's fine, because the top end stones could break right through it anyway. It's pretty hilarious playing this mod.

Well, the Ikko-Ikki and Asakura are both annexed by Oda, which should give me a good place to work with when I rebel and start my own clan, since I can tear off the metaphorical band-aid of the morale hit to their troops quickly and in a single war and pad my army in the early phases with troops from neutral forts.

Does anyone have any particular strategies for what they demand from their lord when they conquer stuff? Mine is demand the towns, but don't bother asking for castles. My idea is that towns are worth cash money and the best defended fiefs, while castles are more or less worthless, though I guess Gekokujo at least makes them useful for recruiting, since Samurai only come from castles and towns, while Ashigaru come from villages.

Having just caught up on the Sengoku Jidai series of videos by Extra History (Which mentions those nasty Monk Rebels) I definitely want a crack at this.

Do the Portugese show up at all? As Mercs or Traders? And what's the overmap like?

Not really, though a few companions are westerners and European-style guns and armor are available.

The setting is, IIRC, 1582 Each Daimyo has 1 or 2 towns except the one who controls Kyoto, who has 3. The mod covers all of Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu and has a similar number of castles/towns/villages to Native (I didn't count, but it feels like a similar amount), though it also has six "Neutral" holdings that you can capture to gain special companions who none of the other companions have beef with, as well as either free trade goods or cheap but middle-of-the-road troops each week.

I use those neutral holdings for the trade goods mostly. Maybe the troops if I need to pad out my numbers, but I'm usually packing hatamoto archers and don't tend to go for meat shields as much.

In Phantasy Calradia I'm rolling a mage working for the Ridas Magocracy. We've actually got crowd control capability and are having a blast mowing down enemy armies left and right.

They really can extend the life of the game. Especially if you find the right overhaul that improves the core. Like Brytenwalda. Seriously, that thing overhauls the entire game and changes everything short of the core mechanics of Feudalism.

[up]I doubt it'd work for me unless there's a significant difference between Brytenwalda and Viking Conquest, since the latter is just an officially supported version of the former and is unusable for me.

My plan for the neutral holdings is, at least early on, to pad my army and garrisons with them after I decide to Start My Own clan until Oda and Asakura troops can have morale again, then retrieve all my Elites and Hatamotos and use those again.

Might have to try Phantasy Calradia, though.

Viking Conquest has a lot of useless pretty additions to it. Like those dynamic menu screens that show you the settlements before you really enter them. I'm sure you disabled that stuff and the game still didn't work for you, so who knows, but on the chance that you didn't disable the performance eating cosmetic stuff, Brytenwalda doesn't have it.

I didn't even see an option to disable those obnoxious settlement menus.

Aha, turning off the scenic menu makes map locations usable. I mean, I also turned down the graphics on the whole, but I don't think my GTX 960 should be having any trouble handling the textures and shit.

EDIT: Still crashes a whole lot, though. I mean Native and Gekokujo crash occasionally, while Viking Conquest does it every few minutes.

It IS intensive. It's going to crash a lot. I don't have issues with it, which is odd, but it's definitely a harder hitter than the base game.

Bannerlords does not have a release date yet, but they have it listed on the Steam Store so we can keep updated!

It's not much, but it is progress. They're close enough to feel comfortable giving us a store page.

Recently bought the Viking Conquest expansion during the Steam Winter Sale. Haven't run into any problems so far, even with the settlement menu thing turned on. I guess it helps that I bought it when it was branded the "Reforged Edition."
