Floris is definitely good. It even revamps Tournaments and makes them more awesome with a points system. And I think the game is set up for modding with or without Steam. There should be a mod directory in the game folder, considering the startup launcher has a drop box for your mods.

Freelancer is another good mod. It allows you to join Lords' armies as a regular soldier, fight for them for the regular rewards, and then go on leave to spend your wages. It's a great way to make early connections for your inevitable rise to Emperor/ress.

Forums.taleworlds.com has a lot of good mods for Warband and the original.

+1 diplomacy

It's what allowed me to game of thrones a quarter of the country rather than sieging them outright

ive found freelancer is actually pretty detrimental to a slave catcher because time passes by really fast while in the army and looters disappear to be replaced by deserters and generally enemies become harder to deal with. fine for someone who reached the end of an army tree, without a skilled army at your feet the transition from freelancing to slave catching can be bothersome for a long while. i just found it to be much smoother progress if you start with the slave catching and army building before freelancing to boost relation and get better equipment.

not that my stats usually match up to the final tier

When Freelancing, your personal army disappears while still drawing pay. It'd be cool if it was like, "Hey, man, I've got this bunch of soldiers who wanna enlist with me. If you've got the room, we've got the skills." If you're going to bring an army with you, you're better off going mercenary and using what you bring to the fight. You can still get good gear from the enemies that way, and you'll gain relationship points here and there from fighting side by side with your allies.

So today Viking Conquest came out. I preordered a couple days ago, so I've already downloaded my copy. I haven't played it yet, but I will in a couple hours. It's from the same crew who brought us Brytenwalda. In fact, it seems like an upgraded version of Brytenwalda, the same way With Fire And Sword was released.

For those not familiar, Brytenwalda was one of the most in-depth overhauls of the base Warband game out there. It's on par with With Fire And Sword as far as depth goes, which is probably why the team was tagged to do an expansion. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with Mount and Blade Bannerlords.

i'll probably be getting it during the christmas sale. its what, like a week away?

course, this could backfire on me horribly; maybe that 10% discount is only for around release time? what if it doesnt go on sale during the sale?

but...eh. i'll take my chances.

I can't imagine them doing it for the Winter Sale right after coming out, but since they did a preorder sale, who knows.

even if they dont, if this sale is anything like the summer sale, i might be able to shave a few pounds off the price simply by selling enough cards.

another big if, considering the reason cards were so profitable this summer was because of the competition

There's a story mode to this one. I'm hoping it lets me be a Viking raider. If not, I'll just go sandboxing and become one anyway. I wanna attack villages, weaken the small countries, and create a New Norway.

I would buy this, but when I tried to play Warband on my Mac I kept switching weapons without meaning to for some reason. I'll wait until I have a Windows computer again.

Sounds like a key mapping issue, maybe? If you still have it installed, try seeing what key weapon switching is tied to. It should be the mouse wheel if it's like my setup.

im hoping that viking conquest keeps the whole backgrounds thing.

its a small thing, but i enjoy it, and i dislike that fire and sword doesnt have it.

I know, it's a little connection to our character. Well, Brytenwalda had that screen that put all the decisions into one menu with sliderbars, and let you read the full story on one page. They probably stuck with that, but I'll be sure to let y'all know what I find when I play.

Okay, so after playing for a few hours, here's what I think:

It's about as buggy as you'd expect on day one. The crew are already hard at work fixing that, so I won't hold it against them.

Otherwise, it's fun. It shows a lot of promise, as long as the crashes and lag subside. There's a lot of life in the villages and towns, and sea combat is fun. I'm only on the Story mode right now, learning about the game and following the missions. I think I will hold off playing for a few days and give them a chance to patch this up. If it works, this will definitely be a good game to keep playing.

OH! And character creation actually got BETTER. At least for story mode. There are a couple added choices that matter, but I won't spoil them.

Awesome. Sounds like I might be tempted to pick up a copy after my next payday, though I might hold off until it's been patched a bit to actually play it.

I haven't gotten that far. I stopped playing after that first session to see what patches do. I'll update y'all when I do get there. It's probably going to be like Brytenwalda, which means you'll need a hell of a lot of soldiers to do it, and you'll have a lot more involvement in the SIEGE aspect of the thing, rather than just the battle.

So going classic, back to the original Mount And Blade.

What's everyone's favorite mods on there? I'm currently on the last version of Star Wars Conquest to be made, from back in '13. It looks even prettier than the older versions, and I'm going to see if I can run a full campaign. The entire GFFA will fall under the bootheels of the Second Empire.

I haven't played any mods XD Except for official ones like Napoleonic Wars.

It's fun running around with a lightsaber. You even get lightsaber shields, and throwing lightsabers. As well as Force powers. There are infantry wielding melee weapons like vibroswords. Marksmen with blaster rifles of all sorts. And cavalry mounted on Speeder Bikes. I love riding bikes with my saber out and cutting down enemies as I swoop up behind them.

I've mentioned it before, but Last Days of the Third Age (a Lord of the Rings mod) is a pretty well fleshed out mod. They recently ported it to Warband, which is pretty awesome.

I've read about it. I think that's the mod the SWC team left SWC to build, and that's why we have yet to get a Warband port for Star Wars.

I also played the Star Wars Conquest mod, though it was the version made in 2010 because that's the latest one that works with the GOG version. I spent a lot of time on it playing as a Jedi and raising an entire army full of Jedi and Speeder Bike mounted troops, all while helping the Rebel Alliance take over the galaxy. Eventually, I succeeded in wiping out all other factions (all 2 of them), leaving the Rebel Alliance the only one left standing.

Maybe I'll download the other version to use with the other copy of Mount and Blade that I got years ago.

I'm on the opposite side. Sith helping the Empire. tongue They've added new heavy troops to the game, and were about to add vehicles like walkers when they decided it'd just be better to do a Lord of the Rings mod that included Trolls that would be the same damn size as the Walkers. But considering the last update took 3 years, and it's only been somewhere around 2 since this one, there's still hope for another. At least for Original Mn B. The original creator of the mod left, but the Last Days crew took up the banner back then, and they haven't actually abandoned the mod.

While this thread's fresh again: Since Viking Conquest has been out for a few months now, what's the final verdict? Worth spending money on, or should I just sit tight?
