Still, it could be worse. Could you imagine if somehow Kwame became governor?
Thats "Lets nuke Michigan to be safe" level.
It does when they build and run homeless shelters. The one we built back home has been up for about three years now and still hasn't hit capacity because nobody bothers going to it in lieu of just panhandling by the freeway exit.
Still, there's basically no way churches would be equipped to handle, you know, a huge chunk of Detroit.
Going from a shitty house to a homeless shelter is still what I'd call a "significant downgrade"
Why is this still happening? Don't bankers and stock brokers and so on now have the exact same amount of money they did before? Why aren't THEY the ones making jobs and expanding, other than to try and squeeze more money out of government whilst pretending to care?
I think you answered that yourself.
Alternatively. Michigan is toxic. Its so bad no one wants to touch it, which just makes it worse.
The attraction to the movie industry really could have brought Michigan back on its feet.
But noooooooooooooo Snyder, lets remove THE ONE TAX BREAK THAT WAS SHOWING RESULTS.
God I can't wait until our next governor election so we can boot this cocksucker out of office.
Granholm may not have been the best, and Canadian() but at least she was better than this jackoff, Snyder.
Becaiuse they make more money this way.
You had a Canadian running? :P
Does Michigan have any rent assistance programs? Especially if welfare isn't coming in, keeping your house will be the difference between success and failure at this point.
It's also a very significant upgrade from sleeping under an overpass in the mildew of the last guy's urine and risking getting shanked by the first meth-head to wander past whilst tripped off his balls. I mean I get that there's some pride involved with avoiding homeless shelters, but by the time you're already homeless it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

My point is no one should even be in such a situation.

Actually, going from a shitty house to a shelter basically takes you out of society. It's extremely hard to claw your way back in once you're at that point.
That's actually the charity work that I've spent the most time on, but we couldn't get any funding/grants whatever, because quite frankly there was little to no interest in helping homeless people perpetrate "fraud". We wanted to provide "fake" addresses/phone contact numbers/etc. for homeless people (or transient), in order to help them find gainful employment.
Democracy is the process in which we determine the government that we deserveRight. Who the hell hires homeless people?
Even the shitty jobs just get taken by illegal immigrants who work for much much cheaper.

Nobody's going to argue that. I was responding to someone saying charity can't do something that in many places it demonstrably is.
Still, retroactively chucking people out on the street en masse in a state notorious for not actually having jobs generates a task of a scale that...not a hell of a lot of people are up to handling.
It's a good deal easier when said shelter gives you a valid return address and a place to clean up.

Well that would require our wonderful Governor and Senate to give a flying fuck, wouldn't it?
Yep. Too bad they don't.
Untitled Power Rangers Story@Thorn: Ah, I see. It's bad for churches to give charity to the homeless, because homeless people shouldn't exist.
“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. BernardGee Rott, that's not a complete distortion of Thorn's position at all.
No. They shouldn't. They deserves homes.
Don't you dare twist my words to make it sound like I think homeless people should die. THEY SHOULDNT BE HOMELESS.

Yes rott that's exactly it.
Untitled Power Rangers Story

Breadloaf: our former governer, Jennifer Granholm, was from Canada I believe.
She was born in Canada, yes.
The moment I heard Snyder won I knew shit like this was going to happen.
I had my "I Told You So"s prime and ready for moments like these.
