It's all subjective really. I can understand not enjoying Oblivion. While it is a great game, the immersion (for me at least) just seems like too much. Like that one Penny Arcade comic that I can't remember for some reason.
I feel the same way about the Gearsof War series. Many of my friends love it, but I don't particularly care for it. Mainly due to the fact that it looks so washed out and because it was another Hyperspace Arsenal game (and this is coming from a Red Dead Redemption fan). That doesn't make it a bad game, it's just one of the reasons I don't like it.

Show some love.I can see this thread tumbling into complaints very fast.
I was actually pretty much the same as the OP. I think it's partially to do with how burnt-out fantasy RP Gs are that a retro-50s sci-fi one is just refreshing.
Probably when it comes to these things though, the one that tops my list is people thinking I'm crazy for absolutely loving Splatterhouse 2010, but not liking Bayonetta at all.
Je Suis "Aware"Honestly, I was less immersed in Oblivion than I was in Fallout. In Oblivion, I didn't really know or care what was going on, what I was supposed to do, or why I was doing it. In Fallout, the minute the tutorial ended, my first thought was, "I gotta find Dad! I hope he's okay!"
I hope not. I really only meant for examples on how two good games can be very similar, and yet people find one much more preferable to the other.
The latest episode Extra Credits touched upon this while talking about cutscenes. It's about contextualization. The setting of the Fallout series engages you in a way the setting of the Elder Scrolls series doesn't.

We aren't interested in this sort of conversation - discuss individual games on their own merits, or use the Media Recommendations forum.

You guys ever heard this question?
Just the other day, I was talking with my friends, who were waiting for Elder Scrolls V to be released, when I told them that I played Oblivion, and didn't like it too much.
One of them said to me, "But you liked Fallout 3 so much! You're crazy to not like Oblivion if you like Fallout 3!"
I don't know why, but I tried to play Oblivion, and I made it until a few hours in. I just found it so boring, for some reason. But I'm in the middle of my second playthrough of Fallout 3. Are they really that similar?
If you've got a similar story, share it!
