Ichigo nodded.

"So be it, Sensei."

Clearly, she suspected some deeper meaning or subtext to the choice of this lesson. But she'd been doing her job. So why did they send a messenger... and why this messenger?

With that, Ichigo turned to Sakura.

"That's kind of fascist, don't you think? The law above all, no matter what that law may be?"

Ai shrugged.

"No law can be enforced perfectly. Let her have her little dream world. The rest of us can know better. But I suppose she thinks it better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven."

It was now Ai's turn to glance at Sakura, and a sadness seemed to pervade the fiery-haired girl's ruby eyes.

"Clearly, she's never tried it. I was... well..."

She wasn't about to admit in front of everyone that she was a fugitive Contessa of Hell. It'd be so awkward.

"Let's just say there's no shortage of people who think nothing goes with a crown quite like bloodstains."

Asuka needed a moment to analyze the situation before jumping in to assist in moving Nekomi. If the girl was big enough to require a wheelbarrow to transport, she wondered if just the two women would be able to pick her up. On the other hand Faulkner had moved her presumably by herself, so it shouldn't be too hard. Finally Nurse Mino grabbed the girl's legs firmly and looked to her American counterpart.

"On the count of three," she announced, "One... two..... three!"

Kanako meanwhile was confused by the transition from discussion of bindings to criminal activity. Knowing nothing about the subject she simply remained quiet. Then rested her head on her desk and closed her eyes. A small yawn escaped her lips and then she promptly started dozing off.

Hikaru interjected into the conversation between Ichigo and Ai.

"I may agree with Sakura-san. Even if it's fascist...what's the other option? Laws can be changed much more easily than something chaotic can be stabilized. It's a matter of perspective, isn't it?"

Faulkner lifted the girl on three, and managed to avoid falling over the wheelbarrow as the two of them set this beautiful beast of a woman down on the bed.

"Do you believe she is unharmed?"

Ichigo shook her head.

"I don't think Sakura-chan believes laws should change, and that's what I've got a problem with. A law that exists to shape and constrain the world, rather than simply help keep order in it and aid its natural growth and change. Law can go as bad as crime. Maybe worse. That's all I'm saying."

Ai nodded.

"In some parts of the world, if a man rapes you, you basically have to either marry him or be put to death. And it's his choice. That's a pretty shitty law."

She scoffed.

"Plus you can get stoned to death for being a lesbian."

She pouted.

"I like girl-time. And I don't really like rocks so much."

Hikaru adjusted her glasses with a small smile. She was starting to get into this.

"That makes sense...but you still didn't answer my question, Ichigo-chan. I asked what you would offer as a better option. Makurayami-san, you mentioned laws that were bad laws—and I entirely agree with your assessment of that law—but I would just like to point out that if there were no laws, the man could kill you as soon as look at you with no punishment whatsoever."

Sadako shuddered, imagining a mob throwing rocks at her while shouting slurs. "Hikaru's right about the need for laws, but that doesn't mean that blindly following authority is a good thing. In Europe, a lot of horrible things were done by people who were 'just following orders'"

Ai nodded.

"But you could kill him too, so at least you'd be equal that way. Not that I could kill anyone... I don't like violence... but... well..."

Ichigo stared Hikaru in the eye.

"The voice of the people needs to be heard. In some places, it's easier than others. And it needs to be easier to be a fugitive."

"You don't know the half of it," Ai said with a bitter laugh.

Ichigo shrugged.

"But I'm not saying law itself is bad. Just that too much of it is. Especially too much, pursued too zealously. It's okay to have rules, but the rules should be fair. And, well, a lot of the time, they aren't. There's no solution. It's just how it is. Too many people who are drawn to power are the kind that shouldn't be trusted with it. It's not as bad some places as others, but it's everywhere on some level. Corruption is a fact of life. Not all problems can be solved. Doesn't mean I think Sakura-chan isn't headed down the wrong road."

Ai raised her fingers to her temples and rubbed them.

"Can we talk about something else? As far as I'm concerned, politics is boring at best and traumatic at worst. And this is coming from royalty!"

She paused.

"...Well... ex-royalty."

"The law is considerably more conducive to social stability than an absence of law. Without it, culture and tradition would perpetuate the same system of responses without any framework to bind it, until a warlord took control and decided to enforce their ideas of justice, however warped they may be. I would rather we not make a return to the days where people could get messily executed for simple theft, it leaves a lack of ways to deal with worse crimes," Natsumi said, finishing just in time for the bell to ring, "Now, you should go to your next lesson."

"Eto..." said Sakura. "Isn't it here, music-sensei? And aren't you supposed to teach us? So sorry, but I am not familiar with the schedule, being new here and all..."
She tugged at her braid. "Truth to be told, Ichigo-san, you did not understand what I meant, 'twould seem. You see, I believe that a law is better than no law at all - since it is the lesser of two evils. Go and read Hobbes; I'm practically paraphrasing his Leviathan now. Of course I prefer good laws to bad, but, I think bad laws are better than no laws."

"This school has a music room for a reason. Not least of which is that the rest of the walls aren't terribly thick," Natsumi countered, sighing. Still discussing philosophy? Honestly, this was getting annoying. Especially the one insisting absolute tyranny was better than nothing. People were inclined to order regardless, it's how these things formed.

As she drifted between light slumber and just resting her eyes, Kanako actually did pick up on the debate going on in class. This mixed with the thumbing through of the history book she'd done, at least in her mind. It was then that a potential model for rebelliousness was found, though she didn't realize it at the time.

While she continued to rest her head on her desks, she chimed in with a totally random, "Tyranny? No.. all.. all power to the soviets!"

Music class, at last something that was of interest to her. Yurika didn't take long to pick her stuff and then make her way to the music room.

"Kana-san, you're losing it," said Sakura. "Better stop spewing random nonsense (nonsense is fine, but not when it is random), pack your things and go to the music room..."
She did just so, and waited for her friend in the classroom's entrance.

Ichigo stared at Sakura.

"Bad law will lead to lawlessness, and that's a best-case scenario. The worst case scenario is when the tyrants and their dogma break or mesmerize everyone, and it just goes downhill from there. Bad law deserves revolution. And if you and Hobbes think people should sit on their hands when the jackboots come a-marching, you two can stay out of my way, 'cause I'll be throwing rocks. Bad law is one thing. Flat-out oppression is another."

With that, she stalked off towards the teacher as Sakura left the room.

"Where can we talk privately?"

Ai, meanwhile, was quick to disappear, but waited outside class, waiting for her classmates to file out so she could pick one of them to tag along with.

The succubus didn't like to be alone. Life was so much easier with a patsy.

Hikaru got up, glancing over at Ichigo-chan hesitantly. Should she stick around...?

She settled for a quick smile in the kitsune's direction, waiting to make sure Ichigo saw it before she headed out into the hallway.

Ichigo turned to Hikaru.

"Meet you in music, Ren-chan."

She was fairly sure this would be a business meeting... And she did not want her friend-with-benefits around for that.

Hikaru blinked, a bit startled by the informal mode of address.

"...Going well, thank you," she said in response, polite if nothing else.

A smirk crossed Ai's face.

"You do know they always wind up running in the end, don't you? If she doesn't get scared, she'll get bored."

She shrugged.

"Might wanna weigh your options is all."

Ai smiled, beaming.

"Yeah... but you can call me whatever you want. That's quite an accent you have... Very exotic... Is it Estonian, by any chance?"

She moved to stand next to Sadako, and offered her hand.

"Would you mind walking me to the music room? I... don't know my way around..."

She paused, as if deep in thought.

"Maybe we should wait for that Hikari girl...She's new too, and, well, she seems like she could use someone big and strong like you to help her around..."

Hikaru stared at Ai in confusion for a good few seconds.

Wha...who'll get...

Her face hardened into something remarkably close to a glare as the intended meaning slipped through, and she walked past Ai without another word.
