well, this is an interesting development. so in a way, Mane6 has gone both over Hasbro's heads and under their radar. clever.

I just hope they expand the background of the setting and characters before the game comes out to minimize the impact of losing the established ones.

I was looking forward to playing this. I enjoy fighting games for the novelty and hanging out with friends. So alas no MLP fighter.

That said, Faust is awesome. Who the hell takes time out to help fans salvage their game by getting around its legal objections? She does and that is too cool.

Also had a thought. Derpy is the unofficial Brony mascot but not a main character. What if an Expy is made for her here? Perhaps as the replacement Pinkie?

...I wonder if the new version of this will use the Galaxy Girls.

Huh! I'm glad to hear they haven't scrapped the whole thing. It looked like there were some good mechanics in there, and maybe without the MLP license, more people will be interested in trying it out.

I'm wondering, though, how much will the gameplay change? We know there'll be new characters and a new setting, but will the moves and hitboxes be the same? Will the characters still be on four legs? If they make the characters bipedal, they'll basically have to redo all the hitboxes.

So, should we make a new page for the non-MLP game at just "Fighting is Magic" (since it seems like that will be the name, at least for now)? It'd make sense not to get rid of the MLP: Fighting is Magic page since there is a playable leak. But it might be better to wait until we at least know something about the characters beyond the fact that they have four legs and use the same movesets as the MLP characters.

Mane6 talks about the potential of the Skullgirls engine as well as teasing at some of the new characters.

Hah, I hope the actual designs are pretty close to that. Especially the Alpaca. That is one hell of an alpaca.

Hmmm...I'm assuming they're keeping a lot of the work they've already done...

I wonder how they're going to do the pegasi and unicorns. They'll need quadrupeds that can fly/are magical...

...Maybe they'll just be reworking them completely?

I think it might have to do with the fact that they haven't shown anything in action yet. I mean, when it was about ponies, there was also quite a lot of wip gameplay footage, too. Since the C&D, though, it's been pretty quite outside a few character design reveals. So there really hasn't been much to discuss...

There's a "tribute edition" out now, evidently. As far as I know, it takes one of the early leaked betas and polishes things up a bit, maybe adds a few new characters. (On the subject, I recall seeing a screencap somewhere of Applejack lying defeated before a gray, black-eyed hovering clone in a stage that was only a black screen. It looked like something out of a trying-too-hard creepypasta. I'm not sure whether it's from said tribute edition or not...)

A few characters were also ported to MUGEN, albeit some with... interesting new moves...
