Got a few hours in last night and I guess if there's one advantage to being super rusty, it's that it's dislodged a lot of habits, including some bad ones.

Amazing how some voices give the game just that bit more personality.

They're interesting, though after playing so long without them, it feels weird to me. Might be a little too chatty mid-match for my tastes.

Speaking of, here's the cast. Amazed they got Tara for this.

Guilty Gear or DBZ's pretty chatty too, so I'm kinda used to it. It's weirder when I can understand everything they say than when it's in Japanese, though.

I looked at the credits of those VAs and TIL that Shao May (a panda who doesn't speak) needed a dub actor.

That... seems rather unnecessary.

Solid cast all around though.

It's (probably) way easier to get a person to do growls and snarls and other animal voices than to try to train an actual animal to do the same thing on cue.

Nah I get that but my question is why they needed to record English sounds when the Japanese ones were likely nearly identical.

I have to imagine Tara volunteered to be on the list as a favour to Lauren. The two of them are pretty close.

So, looks like the team has run into issues, which has ended in the release announced to be without Story Mode. The first release will be called v0.95 as an early access build. Story Mode will be patched in at a TBD date.

There go my plans for a release stream. Guess I can just do Pixel Lobby shenanigans again.

Well that's a shame :( Oh well, at least they're still putting it in.

I feel for them, I appreciate their transparency, and I hope the issues are resolved quickly.

Game is out. I'm still at work, so won't be streaming for a while, but at this point, you can also all just buy and play it for yourselves. Barring that, I've heard a big name in the fighting community is giving it a whirl, so now's a good time to poke around Twitch.

As soon as I'm done with work I'll go about downloading it. Can't wait to play this, even if the story mode's not ready yet.

Is it just me or is the game still pretty much the same as it was in beta? Missing animations, placeholder sprites, barebones arcade mode... I'm almost considering adding Obvious Beta to the game's trope list if this isn't fixed soon.

TFH is technically still in early access, but from what I understood, the only difference between this build and the final 1.0 build would be the story mode. I'm worried that this might hurt Mane6's reputation if players see the game in its unpolished state while thinking that's the full release.

A bit from their news post on the subject that may explain it. I get the frustration, but I think the basics of it are all functional, and I think their Steam page better explains the roadmap and the current state of the game.

What point in the Beta are you making the comparison from? Because there was a Beta patch just two days ago, so there's not gonna be a ton of changes. That said, even between that patch and now, it's filled in a bunch of sprites and animations (mostly for the cougar and bear, plus stopping predator throws from turning into Arizona, but still). The last couple months have also seen some pretty heavy rebalancing. Basically, they've been focusing an awful lot on PvP. This comes with issues all its own (it led to me deciding not to stream it much because the PvE stuff was unpolished enough that viewers didn't like it as much and the Beta lobby dead so often during stream times that I just couldn't get people to lose against fight), but I think for their stated goals, they're done pretty well.

I was just expecting the game to launch with every character having a full spritesheets and all animations finished. I do understand why Mane6 had to release in the state it currently is, and I'm tolerant of their mistakes (I've been following the game since way back when it was just a video of Applejack vs. Applejack, so a shaky launch isn't enough to derail the 6 or 7 years of hype I've built up), I'm more worried about how the gaming community at large might react to these flaws.
