considering this thread I dunno, inactive, I have ideas for MOTW
in normal form or something, the Monster of the Week will have obvious Animal Motifs
when they go One-Winged Angel, they turn more monstrous and have their animal they are themed after become part of them yet retaining a humanoid form or body parts
Example: a Zebra motw becomes a giant centaur with its zebra head look more like a helmet or mask on top of its human-eqsue head
Massive, Massive bump, but I couldn't find a GARO thread, so here.
KARAS? Awesome
GARO, Also Awesome:
Put them together and what do you get?
Cmon, Tatsunoko and Tohokushinsa. Give us the crossover we've been wanting forever!
Watch SymphogearBump to get this thread revived.
Alright. Since I asked about this thread, and it's here. I'm gonna begin.
Been thinking about a few things here and there, mainly in regards to the Metal Heroes.
As someone unfamiliar with that franchise barring what little I remember of VR Troopers, what I saw of Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider in Super Hero Taisen Z.
I know they're also crossing over with Super Sentai quite a bit as well.
Basically, my thoughts are two fold:
1) What's the ultimate difference between Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes? Like, it seems like Riders do most of the stuff Metal Heroes do (especially as they've become more akin to Powered Armour wearing types rather than cyborgs).
2) I've noticed a lot of animated adaptations of Toku stuff (Ultraman, Gridman, and of course Fuuto Tantei), so I started wondering, if someone chose to do an animated adaptation of Metal Heroes, what do you think they'd choose? From what I can tell, the Space Sheriff trilogy might be on the top of the list, but I've been watching a few clips (and at one point, some full episodes) of Spielban (the only series where the hero has two female sidekicks, though one is his sister). It helps that he's one of the VR Troopers so I think I kinda recognized him even before I made the connection.
And there you go. Two questions that wouldn't feel right on either the Kamen Rider or Super Sentai page.
One Strip! One Strip! One thing's for certain across the decades is that Kamen Rider's main gimmick has been the Drivers/Belts. As for how things were at the beginning, Kamen Rider also had more focus on bikes & unarmed combat compared to Metal Heroes while Metal Heroes were often divided into themes (Space Sherriff for the 1st 3 while Winspector, Exceedraft & Solbrain where a sort-of rescue force themed while Jiban & Janperson are different takes on Robocop). Suitwise, Metal Heroes also tend to have a more armored look compared to other Tokusatsu shows. Of course, in modern times Metal Heroes died as a franchise & Kamen Rider has really branched out a lot away from its roots.
As for animated adaptations, never really a fan of animating Tokusatsu since a big appeal of the genre for me is the live-action superhero part & the live-action fighting but if they do adapt a Metal Hero for animation other than Space Sherriffs, I'd say a Jiban/Janperson anime could work as a continuation of their Robocop homage or Jiraiya and see what other flavor of McNinja they come up w/
So I've been watching GARO: The One Who Inherits Steel, and I'm really liking it so far.
I'm a big fan of the choreography of the fights, they can be pretty impressive and creative.
This is the first time I'm watching a GARO series, I started the first GARO a while back, but I couldn't keep paying the VPN and Hi Dive, so I dropped it. I was actually not aware that this season is a sequel, which explains the lack of development of the main character, Ryuga, through it, but it gets compensated by the supporting characters.
Currently, all 10 episodes so far are available to watch on Youtube until March 18, so give it a watch if you can!
First off, holy necro'ed thread.
I'm watching TOWIS too, actually! Glad you're liking it!
I like its premise and it's definitely a step-up from the last Ryuga-Verse outing, but it's been a very awkward watch for me. I like the concept of a Hagane Knight story, but the show's done remarkably little with the idea beyond pointing at one character constantly and going "Look how sad he is! Isn't he just sad?" Obi and Ron seemed fun; I really wished they were the main characters of this whole thing instead of Ryuga, whose role here I question.
I'm trying not to be too hard on it since this is the first mainline GARO thing we've gotten in awhile (Versus Road is more its own thing) but TOWIS feels like Waiting for Godot with magic spells with how much it's been needlessly holding back.

"Doctor, I did say look for the Spymaster. Or should I say Spy....Master?"Question: Does The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nóg count as toku?
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Absolutely.
Tokusatsu technically means "special effects," so it's broader than just Henshin Heroes, but even limiting it to just that, IMO Tir Na Nog fits.
