Just curious, to which religion, exactly, do the (religious) people here ascribe?

To be honest, I'm not as interested in all of the atheists/agnostics/whatever the kids are calling it these days. I mean, no offence to your beliefs, but 95% of you believe one of those, and frankly, I've heard enough of it.

Pagan, but not very religious.

[up] I never thought I'd meet someone who could honestly say they're a pagan with a straight face.

I used to be particularly religious. Catholic, specifically. Not really anymore, although I do believe in (a) god(s) (can't decide, really). I wouldn't subscribe to any particular faith, however...

Savage, is there a god of IT services? If so, pray to him/her for me really hard for me, please. tongue

I'm a collective unconsciousness theorist, which suggests that reality is the shared aggregate of all perceptions. Whether that can be considered a "Thing" or not (and thus something that exists) is another matter entirely.

^Wait till you hit college. There's so-called witch girls, many of whom claim to be Wiccan, many who claim to be Pagan. It's all over the place.

@Heathen, I find that the term 'pagan' can mean rather a lot of different things. What, specifically, do you mean?

Agnostic polytheistic Buddhist who holds some stock in rebirth.

I run the fora's Buddhism thread as well. For the curious.

I seek to apply the philosophy to all of my life as best I can and to help people using what I know. I also meditate and do yoga daily, head to a wat weekly, and take The Eight Precepts during Buddhist holidays. I am one devout little bitch.

I am making a name for myself at the wat as one of the weekly people who helps out around the temple as well. I seek to involve myself more, learn a great deal about the religion in every angle possible, and, if I can, become a nun for a minimum of a month.

Also just in case this needs to be stated. No I do not truly believe that everyone should be Buddhist or that it is the only path through life. It is merely the path that The Buddha found and it is the path that I myself have chosen to walk. I am more than fine with people holding other beliefs including those that focus on enjoying earthly pleasures.

Hell I'm interested in people with other beliefs. It's boring as shit to only be around people who think like you.

My "conversion" style tends to involve just providing information and my opinion to those interested in the topic. Which tends to spring up every so often because of my rambling about the topic. I'm not really out to convert anyone though. If people have interest in becoming Buddhist I will damn sure nurture that, but I am not going to stand behind you with books and go "CONVERT NOW".

I'm just a wee bit sad about how far this has been derailed...

So.

Let's attempt to rerail it shall we? Religious tropers. COME FROM YOUR HIDING PLACES. Or I will have to resort to "Everybody poke Aondeug and ask about her beliefs".

Don't worship Krugman as a God. He is a mortal, flawed as other mortals are.

Just less so than certain OTHER mortals I could name.

I call myself a Catharsistist.

What is that? It's an off-take on conventional catharsis where instead of focusing on the emotional purging that can come from shared emotion, to focusing on the shared emotion itself. (As I don't think purging is the only thing we get out of it.) I think that these shared emotions are actually a core need for most individuals, and is in turn the root of all/most religion.

I'm also an atheist as I don't believe that this "feeling" qualifies as actual theism, and I'm also generally anti-mono-theist (or anti-theist if you will), as I generally think that theistic rationalization of cathartic emotion is actually counter-productive and as such has lots of downsides.

Lots of big words here.

I'm on the fence about the actual supernatural in terms of this belief. There's a possibility that we are actually empathetic (I.E. emotional ESP) to unknown emotions around us. It may explain things such as mob mentality. However, there's no proof for this of course. Just one explanation to something that I suspect.

You say "atheists/agnostics/whatever" as if they're the same thing and that's very wrong. Not morally wrong, but factually wrong. It's like saying "I eat pears/bacon/hockey sticks, whatever you kids call them."

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -Wanderlustwarrior
