That YKTTW idea's discussion had suggestions of expanding NJGUH, a trope I hadn't heard of before making that YKTTW and am still not quite sure how to interpret.

I can see a subtle distinction, but not enough for a hardsplit unless it takes off like a rocket.

... so, expand the trope like some in the comments were suggesting, then?

Yes, expand. The title suggests a trope that is much broader than the description indicates.

... so, what changes should be made to the current trope's description, then? Should some aspects of my YKTTW idea's description be incorporated into the trope's description, and if so, which ones?

Okay, I replaced the trope article's intro with a slightly-reworded version of the intro to my YKTTW. How's that?

Looks good. I'd still like to lose the snowclone name; I think Trick-and-Follow Ploy is orders of magnitude clearer.

The new description is great and I put in a few examples. I tentatively agree with a rename or at least a redirect.

Perhaps we should look for further alternative titles before deciding which to rename this to.

For now, should I shift my examples on that YKTTW over to the other trope?

And for what it's worth, only two of the examples are already there; the Justice League example and the one from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. The others are in my YKTTW but not the trope; which should be shifted over?

I think all your ykttw examples could be copied over.

Is there anyone who thinks Nice Job Guiding Us, Hero is actually a good title for this trope? If not, we could skip the single-prop and go straight to the alt-titles crowner to find a better name.

I didn't write any of that.

I don't think it's a good name. I'd be happy to go right to alt names.

Even though my YKTTW had Trick-and-Follow Ploy for its title, it was specifically about the ploy; is this trope also specifically about the ploy, or is it open to cases where character X accidentally guides character Y without character Y even planning it?

From the description, it's about the ploy (although Tropes Are Flexible, and I haven't looked at the examples).

It should be about the ploy. Simply happening to get lucky and follow someone is treated very differently and used very differently.

[up] Maybe it should be considered a subversion?

Not necessarily. A subversion is done deliberately. The detective tailing a suspect back to the hideout is very different as a storytelling device than the hero tricking a mook into going to the hideout so that he can follow him.

[up] Would it be a subversion if it seemed earlier in the story that the trick and follow ploy was used?

That's impossible4 to answer without more information. Do you have an example in mind?

[up] Not now, I was just wondering generally speaking. Right now I`m guessing that to count as a suversion it has to seem at first like the ploy was used, then instead turn out it was just dumb luck?

... come to think of it, that isn't particularly relevant anyway, as Trick-and-Follow Ploy is a good title either way.

Trick-and-Follow Ploy has 7 votes in favour and only one opposed. Is it time to call it?
