Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

They're grown up Magneto and Prof X.
Their younger selves are played by different actors.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's dumb. Just put the old guys in like, leather jackets and wigs or something.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."And have them use outdated slang.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersExactly.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Personally, I really liked First Class, and am of the opinion that they would have been better off using that film as a reboot. I've been back and forth about seeing Days of Future Past, because from the sounds of it, Fox went, "This new, awesome X-Men film is well received! Let's drown it in the old, shitty X-Men films!"

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3."Coexistence is totally groovy, Eric"
"I've got to beat feet. Don't be a narc for the huMan, Chuck."
It's funny, cause I could actually see Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen doing that, just for fun (and money, but mostly for fun).
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. All I'll say about First Class is that if they wanted me to see Mystique as a villain, mission accomplished.
My various fanfics.... Is Mystique not a villain? She was in the cartoons.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."No, she is. But I feel like the First Class movie wanted to see her ambitions as a bit more ambiguous or something, but then she abandons her brother to go bone the man who crippled him for life, and the whole idea falls right on its goddamn face.
My various fanfics.I'd argue it's a bit more complicated than that.
Oh God! Natural light! If only Honest Trailers put out a DOFP video a couple hours ago.
Oh wait, they totally did.
No one linked that already, did they?
Anyway, DOFP's rebooting effectively removed all the shittiness of the X Men movies that aren't First Class from canon. So basically, it removed X3 and Wolverine entirely, may have altered The Wolverine but no one cares, and changes various things from X1 and X2.
"Get out of my head, Charles!" = What the fuck, Charles!?

The sad, REAL American dichotomyOh god that's so good.
"I'm Tiny Ron Burgundy?"
My various fanfics.Definitely one of the better Honest Trailers.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!@wander awesome
I'll see Marvel Stuff, X-men and maybe all or some of the DCU stuff. The Amazing Spider-man universe is...well....I'm on the fence. They can't even make Spider-man interesting. I have less faith that they'll be able to do something entertaining with his universe. I'm not interested in FF 4.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."heh
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe Fox offerings I won't watch for sure. I dislike the cast they picked for the Fantastic Four (still think that the actors look all so young, which was also a huge problem for me with the first version), and I never really get into the x-men. Ironically because I was so disappointed with their approach. When I first heart that they made the first X-men movies a thought "great, hopefully they will focus on another x-men every movie" (well, I basically wanted a Cinematic Universe before Marvel tried the concept), but they never did, instead they just threw way too many characters at the audience and concentrated way too much on Wolverine (which I never liked...I always thought that Rogue and Mystique were way more interesting...not surprisingly "First Class" when I finally got around to watch it was my favourite, but I'll never forgave them for basically depowering Rogue and turning her into a teenager who has to get rescued constantly).
Spider-man...Well, I'll watch The Amazing Spider-Man 3 for sure. Despite what everyone else seems to say, I like the new movies. I would even go so far to say that "The Amazing Spider-man" is my favourite Spider-man movie (which I have rewatched a couple of times by now...in comparison, the only thing I like to rewatch from the original trilogy is the train scene). The sequel was kind of a mess, but I don't blame Webb but all the "we have to introduce the Sinister Six, now!" elements in it. Which makes me feel very resentful towards "The Sinister Six", so I'll give that one a pass unless it gets really, really, really good reviews.
DC...there everything hinges on the reviews. I am interested in everything Wonder Woman related, but otherwise I am pretty meh about their line-up. Superman was never my favourite hero to begin with and "gritty Superman" doesn't work for me at all, I am very, very, tired of Batman, and generally speaking, it looks to me like they are rushing the development of their universe. I also don't get why they don't built on the good stuff they already have.
Marvel on the other hand - I certainly won't miss "The Avengers", "Captain America 3" and "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" (for Got G I might be in the theatres the week of its release, I can't wait). "Thor 3" will be interesting if Loki is in it. And Ant-man sounds like it might be exactly on my line of interest, since I love Heist movies. After that...well, we'll see.

Well, DOFP was...interesting. Far less weighed down by the previous films than I'd been lead to expect. Not quite sure what to think, really.
Except that MCU is gonna have to friggin' blow me out of the water to top this film's version of Quicksilver. He was not in it nearly enough. Seriously. Second-best use of "Time in a Bottle" ever.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Btw: I now officially hope that Mockingbird will be in a future Avengers movie. I now get why everyone was so excited about the prospect of having her in Ao S. Awesome first appearance!
Yep...if I didn't know better I would suspect that he changed his name just for the project. But I think he is a really good pick for Spider-man, because he is particularly good with writing romance, and let's face it, the comics always spend a lot of time on Spider-man's love life.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 might be my favourite of the spider-man films simply because every time I see it I'm flawed by how brilliantly, well, SPIDER-MAN it's Spider-Man is. It's like seeing a character you've known your entire life truly in the flesh.
I agree...I give the first part the edge because it is better plotted imho, and it gave me the origin story I always wanted to see, but Spider-man 1 just skipped over way too fast in order to get to the Green Goblin as fast as possible. With the second part the ending just frustrates me too much. I wish they had cut out the last 20 minutes.
Wait. Patrick Stewart and Ian Mc Kellan aren't X and Magneto anymore? That sounds terrible.
Like, I don't watch the X-Men movies, but they were literally the only thing I liked about the one I did watch.
