Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

I remember hearing how Anthony Mackie basically gave Harrison Ford a crash course on the MCU during their first day of shooting together, and I just find that mental image endlessly amusing.
I know people have been complaining about a lack of mustache for Thunderbolt Ross here, but I'll be honest, imagining Harrison Ford with a mustache just seems...weird. So I'm not too upset with it.
I still can't get over the fact that Harrison Ford is in a Marvel movie though. It's just absolutely crazy to me.
Trust no one.Ross without a moustache is like JJJ without a moustache, unthinkable
Once again I want to be hyped for Cap 4 more than I am hyped. Maybe I'm just old.
I saw a comic once where JJJ had been forced to shave by Captain America or something
He looked truly wrong clean shaven
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI've seen that one. Cap just verbally disapproved of the moustache, he didn't force force him to shave.
Yeah, he'd fought with Spidey against Hydra and the Bugle reported it as Spidey and Hydra being in cahoots. Cap goes directly to JJJ and gets him to print a retraction. It's a sweet story. (I don't know if it was Adventures one for younger readers maybe?)
Ah ha so that’s what it was
Anyway, we can probably assume that Sam shaved new Ross for some reason
Forever liveblogging the AvengersCap implied a comparison to Hitler's moustache, I believe.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Poor Charlie Chaplin. His style forever marred because a genocidal asshole became a fan of his.
Given The Great Dictator, Chaplin was clearly not flattered by the imitation.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Speaking of JJ its a shame the movies turned him into an Alex Jones asshole.
Cause he can be a pretty decent guy in the comics, like all the times he's stuck for mutants against discrimination
JJ going into the colonial white supremacist history of America and how his white ancestors fucked shit up for everyone is incredibly based.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Arguably that works because of the decades of JJJ being a blowhard with a heart of gold
It shows why Peter is often drawn to the Daily Bugle despite all the libel
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJonah tends to step in behavior that'd be approved by those people, even if he tends to realize how badly he'd fucked up. The Spider-Slayers, anyone?
His archetype and the smear campaign he keeps going against all reason make him a lot less sympathetic these days, really.

Wake me up at your own risk.I kind of like that every adaptation of Jonah is very different from every other.
Thanks to his decades of progress from "selfish, insecure scumbag" to "gruff but secretly honorable man whose addiction to his Single-Issue Wonk hurts himself and others," there's a whole range of personalities to draw from that makes every adaptation of the character feel unique since everyone takes from a different bit.
The MCU version of the character is definitely the most evil version of the character we've ever seen, at least I think so, and that's because he draws mostly from the original Silver Age take on the character with zero of his sympathetic traits. But since we haven't seen that in a while, I think it works - and it could allow us to get some stories with Jonah that wouldn't work with an adaptation that takes from more modern Jonah appearances - like the whole Scorpion thing.
When do we get the Jonahverse movie?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. As soon as we merge him with the Symbiote...
Trust no one.I know you meant that as a joke, but JJJ with a symbiote has potential. Admittedly, it would probably suck but it would be amazing if done well.
KnownUnknown, another troper and myself were talking about the idea of a venomized JJJ, and I think we came to the conclusion that the man's mind is so powerful that it would overwhelm the Symbiote, and leave it at the mercy of a man whose priorities are deadlines, the need for pictures of Spider-Man, and other journalistic work.
Trust no one.The tricky thing with JJ is that his concept is to satire sensationalist news. Back then he's crazy about some stuff but he's still an honest reporter who values integrity and the truth.
But now nowadays newscasters are Alex Jones types which means JJ gets morphed into them and loses his redeemable qualities.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Truly, J. Jonah Jameson is the Final Boss of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Robin: Don't ever ask me to dock with you again. Serious...I mean I don't mind the MCU JJ just being a jerkass. Not every character has to have a secret heart of gold.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHas anybody heard about Spider-Man 4 being a possibility.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Its confirmed to be currently in development.
Zendaya's already signed up to return.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Uh, let me amend that.
I meant did anyone hear about a Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man 4?
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).
Ford did mention that apparently some of his fellow actors did encourage him to join the MCU because they had such a fun time with it, and he also wanted to do stuff that he's never done before.
I'm terrified this means he's going to be in a mo-cap suit though...
Trust no one.
