Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

She's agreed or indicated her desire to move towards all of those things already.

Because he'd done something that tends to be very hard for politicians to do - he got the 18-35 demographic out in rather strong numbers, and that's a group that's generally not too visible in regards to politics.
And Alley, there's a difference between anti-Semitism and criticizing Israel - not saying that you are, but the two do get conflated with each other due to the former obviously doing the latter.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"You may know Hank Paulson as the guy who's name is on 10-year-old dollar bills, he was at Treasury for Bush in the runup to the financial crisis and very much cut from the same cloth as Tim Geithner, just with a different party affiliation.
Bernie Sanders is reportedly not being vetted as a potential running mate for Hillary Clinton.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.Methinks its Castro. The Senate is a free for all this cycle, no?
First Hussein then Castro. What's going on with the Dem?
Non Indicative UsernameIt's not going to be Castro. He's not qualified, and his charisma is overstated. I'm guessing it's going to be Kaine or Warren.
I hope it's not either of those three.
Bercerra or Perez.
I'll accept Kaine...I won't like it...but I'll accept it.
New Survey coming this weekend!I love Warren, but I don't know how well she'd work.
She'd be good for the Left/Progressive Vote most likely, and make them feel like their voices are wanted in the party tent.
But Hillary's Wall Street allies have basically said they'll vanish into the sea with their money if Hillary picks Warren. And pragmatically that is a war chest she could use if Trump manages a From Behind Return.
That hinges on whether Warren would accept the offer, seeing as this might be a way to both solidify the Liberal vote and invoke Kicked Upstairs on Warren. While Theodore Roosevelt became President that way, it's a bit classless to want the death of a political foe - as UKIP's Robert Blay found out last month.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Also there's the concern for if the Dems want to risk either of the two senate seats being lost, even temporarily.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranPrecisely.
The Senate is too important (and Warren has more use there anyway) to make her veep.
Kaine, at least, is in a state with a Democratic governor.
Yeah, but what does he add for Clinton?
"Not offending anyone by being bland as white bread."
...which is not necessarily a bad thing for a Vice-President, especially in this election cycle. The job has been described as a four-year-long coffee break.

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.I wouldn't say Biden or Chaney were taking coffee breaks during their respective eight years. The vice-presidency is a flexible position in terms of power, they can do whatever their president sees fit to bestow upon them.
I'd imagine, depending on the circumstances, Clinton will likely be the wonk who works hard, and the VP will sell the idea to the public. VP might undermine her in status, possibly, but she's always cares about getting shit done, and whether it fails or not, she's going to get the blame/credit regardless, so why bother trying to do any pitching to the public IF you don't absolutely have to?
New Survey coming this weekend!Even if Kaine is inoffensive he won't win a net gain of voters, like some of the other picks might.
@ironballs16
I know exactly the difference, and unfortunately I'm talking about fullblown anti-Semitism or people intentionally using the matter of Israel to justify stances towards Jews as an ethnic group. There's a similar hatred of East Asians from these kinds of people on the left that's also really unfortunate too. The logic being both groups are statistically more likely to be privileged in the US compared to other groups by some metrics, therefore it's OK to spew hateful things about them.

The first job of a vice president is to deter assassins by being even more anathema to all of your enemies than you are. The second job is to be a sensible pick to lead the country if job one fails or a poorly secured roof tile falls on you from a great height.
The vice president doesn't have any other jobs, just "duties" that is supposed to keep him or her up-to-date on what the government is doing and prevent them from going entirely insane with boredom.
I think this means Warren is the best choice. It also means she might well say no.

Plus breaking ties in the Senate.
Honestly, Hil hate is such that any potential assassin would not care. Warren is disliked, but not nearly as well known as Hil.
Yes, but he seems to want her to take all of his positions. In an interview with CBS, he said this: "I want her to say among other things, we have a crisis in higher education — public universities and colleges should be tuition free. Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. I believe that healthcare should be a right of all people. I would love her to say that and I would love her to move aggressively to make that happen."
