Since it was announced at E3 that this game's sequel is coming to the US (hooray for late-cycle DS games!), I figured I'd start up a general topic for the... two or three other people besides myself who've actually played this series.

I'm quite excited that we're getting the sequel, since the original really surprised me (I expected it to be enjoyably decent, and it ended up being unexpectedly awesome), and by the looks of the trailer, it's introducing a lot of new features. The improved field graphics are enough to smile about all by themselves (oooh, cell-shading), but it looks like they've picked some interesting fossil creatures to add to the roster. Dimetrodon was kind of a gimmie, and it's good to see Ammonite and Coelacanth on display... but is that an Irish elk in the trailer? With big badass horns? Cooool, man. Although it is pretty recent by FF standards, it's hard to argue with horns like that.

How was the first game?

I remember only testing the first game out a bit, but disappointed it was nothing like Drone Tactics(GIANT ROBOT INSECTS!!!)...

If I remember correctly, was this the game where the entire battle consisted of rock paper scissors? I remember playing one dinosaur game that was like that.

Are the dinosaurs customizable somehow?(I dunno...mixing up their fossils like a puzzle?)

In fact, since this game is called Fossil Fighters...does the game have insects? Giant insects existed back then too.

PS - wasn't this game based on that anime localized by 4Kids?

^Yeah, but planetary oxygen levels won't support them at a size worth caring about.

No idea why Nintendo decided to localize it over long time Nintendo franchises like FE 12...

Heh. This idea is so nineties.

...look at the trailer. The dinosaurs can control elements....they look nothing like actual dinosaurs. And they fight in turn based combat.

Small details like that has nothing on Rule of Cool.

Oh...pokemon. I'd like to get into it. But I have NOOOOO Ooooooo OO Ooooo idea how EV and IV's work, and how does breeding work, and what pokemon+move set is optimal. I only played a bit of the classic versions, with only 150 pokemons.

Anyways, there giant insects in this game? As one of only a few fans of Drone Tactics (seriously, Needs More Love), I luv controlling giant insects...and nothing would make me happier than a game that lets me pit giant insects against dinosaurs.

You're confusing Fossil Fighters with Dinosaur King, dudes. For one, the battle system is only "rock paper scissors" based in the usual elemental way, and it's more like simplified tactics (you have attackers and supporters, and their effects change based on field position). Second of all, there is no anime.

And considering that dinosaur-based media are making a huge resurgance as of late, I'm not sure how 90's it is.

LORD DENNIS and Fossil Fighters in the same thread = Win.

Kinda like Compso.

Hopefully the story is better this time around. And no Rosie.

I actually liked the story just fine the first time around; I certainly wasn't expecting Eldritch Abominations and prettyboy aliens in my cutesy dinosaur fighter. And it's rare to see a game that finishes off its To Be a Master business midway through and proceed onwards from there.

I could do without Rosie, but it looks like there's going to be a new, somewhat androgynous kid who fills a similar role...
