[up]I was noticing this, even Thudias appear overpowered when compared with any other race, though you could always try to use Mutants And Masterminds and "ignore" the power differences and use everyone with the same power level.

Alternatively, make most of the sapient races off-limits to players. How many creatures in the D&D Monster Manual have at least 3 Int, a CR greater than 1, and can be any alignment?

Well if you were to make a RPG, I'll totally be apart of it!!

My co-creator once was going to make D&D stats for a playable wolfrider race (you'd be both the wolf and the rider, which would have drawbacks and advantages) but never got around to it.

[up]Besides the freaking huge wolf companion with mindlink, "backchannel" what are the others relevant traits?

It can't be hart to make a racial template for Mutants And Masterminds (I like that game, can you tell?)

EDIT:

Well, a wolf-rider template (or rather templates for each of the pair)

Rider:

  • Telepathy (at what range? can they read minds or this a communication only effect?)
  • Mindlink (with the bondmate)
  • Riding bonuses
  • Drawback for the thing where they can't see letters well.

Wolf:

  • Uses the traits of a standard wolf, but Large Sized and smart.
  • Mindlink (with the bondmate)

I don't know what the relevant parameters are for M&M, and I don't feel like learning them. Backchannel is only a communication effect and doesn't allow involuntary mindreading (except to roughly the extent you can tell what someone's feeling, whether they're lying, etc. without them wanting to by how their tone of voice is - that is to say, unreliably and with high variance). Plus non-wolfriders just plain don't *have* backchannel. Riding bonuses would apply only to the rider riding eir wolf, not to arbitrary rideable things. Wolves have vision comparable to riders' - exceptional depth perception, difficulty with flat stuff.

In D&D we were going to have it so that both members of a pair had to succeed on a will save versus anything mind-affecting for the pair to avoid the effect - they can't defend each other, they're vulnerabilities for each other.

Would wolfriders find it easier to read braille, or is that not sufficiently many layers?

[up][up]I confess I am doing this more for me >.<, though only descriptons are good enough

Also, I am not saying that I am itching for it... but where is today's update??

Sorry, had this written in advance but got distracted last night. Chapter 21: Proxy

Braille would work just fine for wolfriders.

[up]Less amusing than I expected, but much better, already added it to both Crowning moment of Awesome and Heartwarming in the Elcenia page =]

The (relatively?) sharp shift in the direction of "gravity" at the edge is pretty weird. What happens inside the 90° angle between the plane of the surface and the plane of side? Force vector = line through the edge? Probably not, or the transition would be very gradual when flying high enough and unlikely to be as sickening as Theedy suggested? So maybe it changes abruptly at a particular angle? Which angle, 45°? Objects close to that angle would fall in an interesting sinuous line because the the direction of the force would keep flipping during the fall. Or maybe there is no force acting inside the 90° angle mentioned?

[up]The answer: Magic!

Also, I totally want to see Jensal reaction to the news, she will either be very impressed or still very skeptical, but it will be amusing to read either way =D

There wasn't any question the word magic could be an(y thing but a non-sequitur) answer to.

EDIT: Alicorn you write Elcenia for how many hours per day?

The 90 degree angle off the corner of the planet is just zero-gee.

I don't write every day, and I don't think "hours" is the best way to count the days I do write because I multitask, take lots of breaks, and work at widely varying paces.

Hmm. Since obviously no atmosphere could be held onto that way probably the whole universe (or at least some sort of bubble containing Elcenia) is filled with air? This would seem to be confirmed by the moon being a place you can fly to with what is believed to be purely physical flight. There seems to be no perpetual storm at the edge so day and night apparently result form the sun revolving around Elcenia rather than Elcenia rotating (Alicorn already stated it doesn't move around).

I wonder why the underside is uninhabited? There's air, sunlight, and temperatures around sunrise close enough to comfortable to be unremarked on. Maybe it lacks water because rain is magical and it just doesn't rain there? Or because the sun passes closer to the underside and it gets really hot around noon (and the sunrise in the chapter was over one of the other edges)? Or maybe some cosmological phenomenon that periodically kills everything down there, but is infrequent enough that Tekaal didn't mention it?

Alicorn Since: Aug, 2010
#192: Sep 18th 2011 at 2:11:05 PM

Yup, there's air everywhere. You can even fly to the sun if you want and have the equipment to make that long a flight, although you probably don't want to get that close unless you're a red-group dragon or a fire mage or something.

The sun does move around the planet.

The bottom of the world has oceans, mirroring the ones on top, but no rivers, lakes, or rain. Same on the sides. It's not inherently inimical to life, but only comparatively recent advances in wizardry (especially agricultural wizardry) would allow it to be settled. (Enough transportation magic would also work fine, if you just imported all your food, but teleportation circles are preposterously expensive.) Animals won't go over the edge, and plant seeds or spores that are blown off the edge might float off in the zero-gee area but won't land on the side of the world. The soil on the sides and bottom is pretty much sterile. Also, there's currently no diplomatic consensus about how to divvy up side and underside land. Someone could show up and settle on it anyway, but they'd be running the risk of annoying someone who decides not long after that they wanted that bit.

The moon is uninhabited for similar reasons.

Wow, this is amazing! I first read Luminosity and Radiance (and couldn't stop rereading them) and then I found this. I am now wishing I had found this at a later date so I could read more stuff at once. Basically wishing that there was much more stuff by Alicorn existing. Anyway, I am greatly enjoying this and can't wait for more!

So Keo has a personal reason for her extreme reaction to the topic of shrens. Since we already know Narax and Keo look exactly like their parents he obviously is another member of that family. I wonder if he was infected of just hatched from a striped egg?

If one were to burrow down through the planet, would you eventually hit zero-g, or would the gravity promptly flip at some point?
