Does anyone here have Unity on PS 4? I only need 5 more sync kills to get the last of the co-op trophies, and I'd prefer not to have to rely on randoms if I don't have to.

I do (I don't think I've traded it in....), but haven't played it in ages. I keep bouncing off it. Could pop it back in if I can find the disk to help out?

That'd be great. Send me your PSN ID and I'll add you later tonight when I get home from class.

Things I noticed:

  • Lockpicking is a skill, not a minigame, and there won't be any Initiates-locked chests.
  • Ubisoft did look into including the menagerie in the Tower of London, but it had already been moved to Regent's Park for the London Zoo prior to 1868.
  • One of the cane swords appears to have a scythe blade.
  • Edward Kenway's outfit is available via the AC Rewards program.
  • Kenway Saga stuff regarding Haytham and Edward is confirmed to play some role in Syndicate.
  • You can get the Assassin Jolly Roger from Black Flag hanging on (probably) the inside of the train hideout.

We knew that Syndicate would address the Kenway family in some way already.

What, exactly, is AC Rewards? Is it tied to the Council, or is it a new version of Initiates, or what?

[up]If I remember correctly, its related to 'registering' AC Products to your Ubisoft Account which opens up Chests and other rewards in game.

So it's the good part of Initiates. Getting stuff just for having the other games.

I haven't had much chance to interact rmctagg09 but I know that you moderate the AC tropes pages so just want to say hi.

God AC-3 was awesome. I always felt that the game was truly underrated. It's one of the most ambitious last gen games ever made and sadly enough, it might be the last time a AAA title has a non-white protagonist front and center, in artwork and game for some time.

The frontier gameplay in AC-3 is a thing of beauty, the land gameplay in Black Flag and Rogue was more nerfed than that game. Rogue even goes further in absurdly giving New York Havana's colour scheme, despite it being not really the same kind of weather. The main thing about AC-3's forests unlike other games is that the trees look like real trees. I mean of course in retrospect you can tell that the trees with the white barks are traditional game scenery but the ones you do climb are designed in a similar fashion with the same texturing and size, so it blends in beautifully with the surroundings and really makes you feel part of the forest. Black Flag makes the trees jungle gyms and very fake looking. Of course, Black Flag focused more on the naval gameplay rather than land and that suits its purpose.

The other thing of course is the battles and you had so many of them, it's criminal that Unity didn't take that because the Revolution had numerous battles across France and in Paris. It's really shameful that they didn't develop that further. Likewise the weather in AC-3, no mere ice levels like in Rogue, but the same frontier city maps altered by snow, that's incredible. They abandoned that in Unity even if Paris has a variety of weather conditions (and they had a calendar during the Revolution based on it) and there should have been snow.

I have no idea why this Starrick guy is so heavily featured in promotion. He seems very boring as a character. Killer hairstyle though.

The entire series hasn't had that many inspired villains. I think AC 2 was the only one that came even close to having a memorable villain and Haythem Kenway. Charles Lee maybe, if only because of the mematic mutation/overabundance of dialogue shouting his name and his REALLY annoying finale chase.

Big Bads of the games I've played:

  • Assassin's Creed: Al Mualim
  • Assassin's Creed II: Rodrigo Borgia
  • Brotherhood: Cesare Borgia
  • Assassin's Creed III: Haytham Kenway
  • Black Flag: Bartholomew Roberts
  • Unity: François-Thomas Germain

The only one that I'd say isn't terribly good as a villain is Germain, and Unity's, well...Unity. The problem isn't the villains themselves, it's the battles with them.

To be fair, in a game that prioritizes stealth and 'one stab, one kill' rules, its hard to make a traditional boss battle.

Of the games I've played (I, II, Brohood, Revelations, III, and IV) Al Mualim is memorable for dispatching with a simple hidden blade counter when he makes his first move; Rodrigo is memorable for beating the shit out of a shitty "Pope"; and while I can't stand having to spend even one second in Haythem's prologue, goddamn he is a climactic Big Bad.

Cesare and Whatshisface/old guy are forgettable, and I've straight up forgotten who Revelations' villain was.

Hold up. Did you just refer to Black Bart as "whatshisface" and call him forgettable? Because the entire game kind of revolves around him.

I was talking about the old Templar guy, Vane's boss, not Bart. Bart/Sage is certainly a memorable villain, and is (a face of) the new arc villain, and Edwards' personal enemy, much like Lee is with Connor, but he ultimately isn't the villain of the game's Assassin v. Templar conflict.

And frankly the showdown (which is what I'm specifically talking about) with him was rather forgettable for me, considering the majority of the game is spent boarding other ships and killing whatever target.

Whatshisface at least had laser walls of death and platforming going for him.

I literally forgot about Ahmet and his showdown altogether and had to look it up just now. Which is sad, since Revelations is my favorite Ezio game.

Agreed. I thought Revelations really was an interesting game. One of my favorites of the series.

You're referring to 'The Governor', I believe.
