Holy crap, that gameplay trailer had me squeeing. I'm super excited to see Paris and the capabilities of the PS 4, but the thought of squaring off against assassins who are just as strong/durable/fast as Shay has so much cool potential. Maybe like the sailing in ACIII paved the way for the cool sailing in Black Flag, the fight against Haytham (kind of disappointing, especially since the frackin game told you how to hurt him, but the potential was there!) will be a prototype for epic one-on-one fights.

I'd feel too guilty to kill any of those great auks. Unless there's some really cool swag.

Teehee, I'm picturing Lee being stuck in Europe fighting in the war and getting a letter from Haytham about Templar deets, including a promising young man named Shay. The tears will fall! evil grin

As I recall, Altair shat on the then-record for oldest man alive long before he died. I could see Ah Tabai sticking around until Rogue.

I think I saw Achilles in his robes in the video, if only for half a second.

Doesn't Adewale die when Eseosa is still very young?

I like how they're trying to make it as easy as possible on us with there being two games. Each game holding the answer to a question that is raised in the other is a pretty cool way to make sure that playing both games, regardless of order, actually has a pay-off.

It's not exclusive at all.

There may be a PC/eight-gen port of it in like, a year, but they're sticking to their guns on it being 360/PS 3 only right now.

Because you don't put a brand new game in a bundle. That would just drive up the price. So it would be at least another year before they could do it.

Then wait until Rogue is acceptable to put in the bundle. Rogue has more in the Americas than Black Flag did.

You know the Caribbean is part of the Americas, right?

Bundles exist for one reason: to make it easier, cheaper, and thus more attractive for people who haven't been playing the series to pick it up and play through, and therefore become more likely to keep playing as new games come out.

This bundle exists because Rogue is coming out. "Hey, you don't know who Haytham is? Check these out."

I know, but I meant in a 'One of these things is not like the other' kind of way. Liberation and III explicitly have to do with the founding of America as a nation and its early days while I assume Rogue would be similarly. However, Black Flag has nothing to do with that and is really only related through the Kenway line.

-adjusts history geek glasses- While it wasn't a direct influence, one could argue that Nassau was an Ur-Example of a republic. Mostly in what not to do. But, at the same time, the Treaty of Utrecht cause a lot of flux and the Triangle Trade enabled a lot of Colonial prosperity (while also being a reason piracy was so profitable for a short while). While the historical backdrop was very out of focus, events going on during Edward's heyday were sowing the seeds for more historic twists.

I haven't had time to really dig into the research, but a friend sent me a neat paper discussing Jacobitism and the Golden Age of Piracy. Had an interesting premise.

...but yeah, it's less related to III and Liberation, but I can see the linkage. Narrative-wise, I actually do like the links between Edward, Haytham, and Connor, with Shay and Aveline being people tangentially involved with their stories. Frackin' sad as hell. SUPER curious to see how Rogue ends. I thought III had the saddest ending, with Connor realizing he'd done nothing to help his people, and watching a slave auction. Then Black Flag ended waaaay sadder than I anticipated...I'm a sucker for "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables"-esque moments, so the old crew at the tavern killed me. Them Kenways can't have nice things.
