Personally, I wouldn't mind the Jungle Movie being the grand finale for Hey Arnold! As everyone else has pointed out, this was meant to serve as the finale and if the 6th season doesn't get made, then I wouldn't be upset at all because the Jungle Movie pretty much wrapped up everything from the series.

The only step forward now would be to make The Patakis anyway, and The Patakis primarily would have worked in the first place because it would've come at the tail end of a generation that had been watching Hey Arnold (in fact, if they had gone with The Patakis over All Grown Up, much as I think the latter show is kind of okay, it probably would've worked a lot better - the target audiences were closer, so it would have accomplished 'growing with one's audience' more).

They would have to retool the series to be less reliant on the situation that Hey Arnold introduced, so the new generation can get into it.

Miles would be conditioned to his parents' wackiness, but it's not clear how well Stella knows her in-laws.

Happy Valentines from Craig Bartlett (given he says "wish them luck", he's bound to have conjured up something both fiendish and tender for the two of them on this day)

Craig Bartlet recently held an AMA, here's some of what he answered pertaining to the show:

Craig confirms that he's outlined a pitch for season six and that he, the crew and the cast are up for it, but Nickelodeon haven't made a decision just yet and the fate of the show remains with them.

—Craig is undecided on how many people know Arnold and Helga are a couple (outside of Gerald and Phobe), and is thinking of having the two go about things in secret, whatever scenario leads to the most comedic outcome will be used

-Suzie and Oscar are separated

—Helga will be apprehensive of displaying public affection with Arnold, and wants the relationship to proceed on her terms

-If there is a sixth season, it will focus mostly on Arnold and his parents as they readjust to life in the world and adapt to life in the boarding house. At one point Miles and Stella attempt to take it over and come up with ideas to renovate it, which puts them at odds with Phil and Gertle

-Craig hopes to have a special edition blu-ray of the Jungle Movie with more of what was cut

-It's possible Stinky and Lila will start dating

You know, honestly, even though all the cast and crew are perfectly fine with bringing back the show, I'm really not. It had a pretty good run originally, the movie finally came out and gave the fans what they really wanted... (Of course, if they do, it'd probably be better than the majority of reboots these days, considering how well The Jungle Movie went over.)

I assume Suzie finally got tired of Oskar continually being a sponge who just wants a sandwich?

[up] I do agree that a new season isn't needed. If the creator does release a new season, it should only be a few episode. Plus, I would be happy to see not only Suzie divorcing Oskar, but Miriam divorcing Bob.

Presumably if they made a new season it would be more along the lines of a "new show with the same characters" - possibly after a time skip - rather than a "continuing season straight after of the old show." Mostly because the latter isn't as profitable or accessible for Nick's target audience.

He might have pitched it that way, but if it gets picked up it's unlikely to end up that way. It's not an idea the network is going to be keen on.

They were keen on him making a movie resolving a plot thread from fourteen years ago! I don't see how picking up from that movie would be a bad business move!

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

A movie is a single production that doesn't take up a consistent timeslot or - theoretically - require any further effort beyond its premiere. A tv show is a committment that they have to stick with for a season and sell on a week by week basis to both their advertisers and their target audience. It's a rather different kind of thing.

I'd rather see Miriam sober up than her divorce Bob. He's got lots of faults but he really does love his family. Divorce in media usually boils down to "Character A is a saint, Character B is horrid and irredeemable." (I don't think it's that way in real life, just noting that TV is not very subtle or nuanced about it.)

Suzie and Oskar has shown us repeatedly that Oskar is not a very good or reliable person, and Suzie is often upset by him. They did nearly separate in one episode, so there is some buildup towards a divorce. Whereas Bob and Miriam don't really have marriage troubles. They have problems raising their daughters and are cruddy parents with personal flaws (Miriam's drinking, Bob's swearing and blaming others) but those personal flaws don't translate into spousal abuse or arguments with each other, or anything else that would necessitate a divorce.

Due to them separating, I wonder if this means Oscar had to get a legitimate job.

Wasn't there an episode that showed Miriam becomes a functional person without Bob around?

I would say that if kids watched The Jungle Movie, and evidence suggests they did, it'd make sense to pick up from it, rather than throw the audience into a new status quo.

Not sure I'm on board with Oskar and Suzie breaking up, but it would provide some interesting story lines about Oskar and whether or not he becomes a better person after the divorce. As for the show getting picked up for a 6th season, I wouldn't mind as long as they don't stretch it out to 2 or 3 more seasons of the show. Having just one season would be alright and they could use this opportunity to expand on some more storylines that they haven't tackled in the past.

I'd kinda like to see Oskar retired from the show, out of respect to voice actor (and head writer) Steve Viksten, who sadly passed away in 2014.

Wasn't there an episode that showed Miriam becomes a functional person without Bob around?

Sort of. It was more that in her life has left her burnt out shell with no opportunities or outlets to improve it. When Bob has to leave his job for a while, the opportunity to take over for him falls into her lap and finds her calling.

Her conflict wasn't about Bob, specifically, and he's around and in her life over the course of her episode. That said, the idea that she gave up her dreams of doing great things to marry him in the first place is definitely all but explicit in that episode (and made outright explicit in others).

It's a recurring theme with Miriam that when she puts her mind to it she's capable of doing many amazing things, and is only happy when that happens, but she's depressed and bitter and has no drive to even try to do those things any more except for very specific situations.

Much like Helga, come to think of it. But unlike Miriam, Helga is aware that she can do better and does - on occasion - try to break out of the mindset.

As long as there is no blood and the word HELL is censored by something or the other, you can indeed have a jealousy and murder story!

I cant believe the story was allowed myself. I took it for granted when I was a kid!
