If this is going to be set in the 60s/70 era you may want to read up on some sliver age comic tropes, this was when superhero comics were at there most famous for being 'goofy' so you could work in a parody of that.

There are a bazillion better things to do with superpowers, such as fun and profit, or fighting The Man.

Well it is pointed out to him quite a few times that superheroism isn't limited to fighting super villains or stopping theft. Basically Martin needs to find a more nuanced outlook.
