I hope you are planing on having some kind of clone's rights movement.
Slavery is this country's old shame. The fact that it could return in another form without som form of opposition doesn't ring true.

I'm not talking about the size of the mitochondrial genome, I'm talking about how many organelles there are in a cell. It's too much effort to change all of them.
what's difficult? add the new mitochondria then tag the originals with ubiquitin, that way they are destroyed like paternal mitochondria. making the new mitochondria might take a year or two to learn how to do, but so would shuffling around the main genome.
unless you have a really small 3-d printer, then it'd be even easier.
unless it's a setting thing, then point would be moot since you make the rules for the verse.
Huh, I didn't think of that.
Too much work for something that ultimately is pretty pointless, though.
History Maker: You bet there is opposition. The project isn't released to the public until after the story takes place, though, so you won't see the bulk of it except in the narration, since the book is written as if it was published in 2050.
Over the years though, the opposition dies down in intensity because of how hopeless it is to convince an adult 154 that he's being brainwashed and that there's a better life out there. The reason why SC allow the 154s so much exposure to the people in the first place is to show them that.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.
It's unethical, but it's not actually illegal since they managed to make Project 154 legal through some lobbying and sneaky legislature they managed to get passed while they were still experimenting with animals.
That's why they can't be prosecuted for altering the human genome, cloning humans and then selling them.
Thanks to the new legislature, legally they're considered animals so they don't actually have human rights to begin with.
