It's something I've considered in the past, yes. But since I post serially, and my serial stories are often quite long, I recognize that the opportunity to not go completely off the rails with a weird story choice, or leave in extraneous details people are going to take as hints of future developments, or just general grammatical errors, is a good one. A few issues with dialogue tags that slip past me in a one-shot isn't a huge detail, but several per chapter in a dozen-chapter-long story, some people might take onus with.
Edting-by-chapter is simply the better option, regardless of the personal risks it presents. It's why I'm trying to balance it so much rather than simply relying on my own editing pass like I did for the latest chapter of Our Eminence.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Serially also has the advantage of allowing for a bit of responsive pandering. At least, I know I have a tendency to give a little more focus to certain elements if there's any ongoing discussion about them. >.>

Now, I know that editing is both hard and frustrating, and I get not wanting to put in more effort into editing than the reward is worth. However, I do try put at least some effort into responding to all my editors' concerns as I'm well aware that my stories are a lot better than they would have been without them.
Speaking of you and editing......
... Yeah, I know. I was actually working a bit on a story from another fandom this week. I'll try to edit A Debt to the Stars some more this week.
Thanks to Chris Paulson for having a look at the story as well. That was... I can never recall. Meta Four? JT?

Blarg, I'm going through one of those things where it's a hassle to get anything done. I'm making progress, but very slowly.

Reaction Image RepositoryWait, that's not the default state for everyone? >.>
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiNo, it is, but even by my standards I'm going horribly slow. In the past week I've written maybe a few hundred words. And deleted about twice that, so technically I've made negative progress.
Reaction Image RepositoryThat's not good.
Well, it kind of is, in the sense that "if you're going the wrong direction, the best course of action is to turn around". Basically I was writing a scene and a page into it I realized that I didn't really need to show everything that was happening and could just jump right to the end.
Reaction Image RepositoryWow, stories get approved fast if you submit them during the day. I guess that's what happens until you wait for people to actually be awake.
Two favourites and one 'read later' already, so I think that's a decent sign at least. Daddy's ego needs a new pair of comments

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. It's my birthday today. One if the presents I got was a Kindle Voyage, and it's quite a massive improvement over my Paperwhite 1.
Does anyone else here read fanfics on an ereader? Short stories and chapter updates I just read on the web, but I like reading long, completed stories on my Kindle.
Can't say I've ever thought of doing so. Happy birthday!

I don't even have an e-reader (yet). I enjoy actual books too much.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Happy Birthday!
Reaction Image RepositoryHappy birthday, Unknownlight! May it be a good one.
And ye gods I'm stuck on my own work, too. Admittedly I've had some real-life stuff happening. But still, just irks me.
Trekkie, Brony, Warsie, Whovian and many more.Happy birthday!
@Kuroi: Making progress at all is far from a default state for me
I just wander away from fanfiction to blogging/TF2/metal/Polandball/Crusader Kings II all the time.
And oh yes, happy birthday Unknownlight, may your lights ever be unknown.

Gonna see if I can make some progress on Macintosh Must Marry. Decided that Big Mac's going to have his conversation with Meadowsong, though I dunno what the conversation should be about. Maybe something music-related... Big Macintosh is going to the opera with Rarity, after all.
Or maybe it should be something about work, seeing how Meadowsong works for the Apple family.

Thanks everyone.
Happy birthday.
Well, my point wasn't that I feel like editing makes something worse - far from it, often. My issue is that I don't like editing, at least nowhere near as much as the process of actually writing. Editing doesn't (Inherently) damage the story, what it can damage is how much I care about the story.
Which, again, very petty logic, I understand. I just want to find a balance where I'm still excited and interested in the story, but the story is smooth and polished. Which is why I pointed out my main issue is just that I'm doing one editing pass after another, rather than a single sweep. The volume of editing would be the same, but the length is giving me fatigue.
