Plan on getting back to this (watched it prior to my adolescence in Cartoon Network). What's the chronological order since there are specials and movies?

[up] Seasons 1 to 3, First Movie, Season 4, Second Movie (sorta?), Season 5, Third Movie, Seasons 7 and up.

The Nick specials are just recaps of the first two seasons, iirc.

This is the viewing order from the Winx Wiki:

Original series

  • Season 1
  • Season 2
  • Season 3
  • The Secret of the Lost Kingdom
  • Magical Adventure (the movie includes Believix from Season 4, but the film was written before Season 4 was written, and it was intended as a stand-alone sequel to the first movie)
  • Season 4

Revived series

Note: The Specials were produced directly before Season 5, but they are not new stories; they re-tell Bloom's origin story from the original show's first two seasons.

  • Season 5
  • The Mystery of the Abyss
  • Season 6
  • Season 7
  • Season 8

I still think that the 4kids dub is the best Winx dub because it had better voice actors and better music.

If 4Kids hadn't censored things unnecessarily it would have been a great dub.

[up] And that’s why people have a problem with 4kids. The executives at 4kids think that all animation needed to be so dumbed down and so simplified that it gotten to the point that kids and teens would be not wanting to watch the show.

I mean, they let some pretty disturbing stuff slide in TMNT. Their homegrown shows were treated okay but anything they dubbed was censored pretty badly.

Though I'd argue the Shadow Realm in Yu-Gi-Oh! was pretty memorable and iconic because of the obvious Fridge Horror aspect of your soul just existing disembodied in torment for all eternity, moreso than people just dying like in the original. I'm sure the dubbers knew that was even worse if people thought about it for just a minute and snuck it past the executives.

Funnily, when it comes to Winx Club, Nick was even harder on the censorship than 4Kids. The Winx had their outfits changed and covered up and entire scenes were redrawn for the Seasons 1-3 Nick specials.

[up][up] I have a 4kids thread I would love to see getting new posts in it? Wanna join in?

One GOOD thing about the Winx Club 4kids dub is that they removed a racially insensitive moment the Cinelume kept and led to some angry Tweets. A Black girl crying because her beautiful hair... got turned into an afro and that was treated as a horrible thing.

The above 21-minute video by Unicorn of War discusses how the show's depiction of witches as being seen as evil and less trustworthy compared to fairies is a missed opportunity in showing more nuance in different magical beings' morality. The video discusses how women and other marginalized groups have often been branded as witches for not fitting into mainstream society, how the show enforces the idea witches are inherently evil even when we see that is not the case and how a much more interesting idea of witches and fairies as dual but now opposing forces (a sort of magical yin-yang) could have been a more interesting idea.

I guess this could be seen as another discussion about Always Chaotic Evil races in a way.
