Well after a long break, it's almost time for the season to finish. Hopefully. It should be resuming September 8. Why was it delayed so long? Who knows, but the same rumors are stating season 6 will start the week after season 5 ends. If true, yay.

In other news, the pixies are apparently coming back in season 6. Also yay.

Season 6 confirmed. We've even got a trailer now. And before season 5 finishes airing in America. I don't understand Nick. The trailer has some spoilers for the end of season 5, so be warned.

Where to begin? What’s there to even say? I don’t think anything of the new transformations yet. Them still being in Alfea is irritating. It looks like the Specialists have new outfits. That’s good. Daphne may be playing a part. Hopefully I will care about her this time. More 3D episodes. Not good.

Now to the interesting stuff. The Trix are looking slightly better now. Are they taking up their ancestors’ mantle or carving out their own path of destruction. What is their plan? I like that one of the new villains seems to be a witch. The show never really had a proper witch villain that wasn’t related to the Trix, so it’s nice to have a new one after a bunch of wizards, fairies, and idiot mermaids. She's got an interesting power. Creating creatures from stories always struck me as something that had lots of interesting uses. Plus there’s the two guys. Those two may have potential. Right now, the villains are what interest me about this season.

Episode 24 has finally aired in America. Can't say I'm too impressed. Not horrible, but there's a lot of pay off that doesn't go over well.

The previously on said that Darcy and Stormy kidnapped Politea. That thing is always lying, but I hope it's true. Could be interesting for future stuff. The Paradise Bay stuff really dragged on. We get it, the water is nice and beautiful and is full of wonderful life and so on. It doesn't need to be shoved down our throats. I'm fairly sure wild dolphins aren't that nice, but maybe Philla tamed them or something. Also, how did the family not notice the factory before?

Everyone at the alliance stops being an idiot and realizes they need to stop the moron. Except they're still dumb. Tritannus shouldn't need the gates; he should be able to move in and out of the Infinite Ocean anywhere. If he needs the gates, he's even weaker than I thought. Also, it should not be difficult to secure the gates. Put a battalion of troops/submarines down there and you're good. So Flora needs to screw their heads on straight. It sounded to me like she was advocating conquering Earth to secure the pollution. Sky's the leader. Sure, why not. I still can't hate Diaspro. She's stupid publicly opposing Sky, but she's trying to make sure the future king doesn't get hurt again. Then she gets demoted. Eh, she shouldn't have gotten the position anyway. Then she whines and falls in the water. Really unnecessary.

The Sirenix curse lowered the Infinite Ocean? Not sure how that works, but at least it explains why it isn't infinite. The Winx should not be calling these things tough when they can just fly away. Tecna easily kicked one away. Flora continues to be a liability. At least she found the thing quickly.

Alright, time to see what the alliance is made of. The Winx, 5 specialists, Roy, the mermaids, Philla and dolphins, robots, and extra sun power. That's... pathetic. They would've had most of those things anyway, so the only things gained were the robots, which were weak, and Solaria's support, which they might have had anyway. Tritannus is right to scoff at that "army". And they still fail to catch they guy. Awkward Roy/Aisha romance. When was the last time they talked anyway? I'll give Roy another season to impress me, but I doubt this romance will be well written. Flora's big moment is given to some object. So much for her making up being the season's punching bag. Her wish is slightly better than Tecna's but it'll have no impact on the show, so I still don't care.

Plenty of disappointing stuff all around. The fight wasn't even very good. Next episode I think is decent. We get an actual army vs. army fight at least. Too bad Aisha is going to get jobbed in her own season.

One note on season 6. From what we know, the Trix are supposedly the main villains. If the Politea is actually alive and giving them a massive power boost, that might explain how they're strong enough to pose a threat.

[up] It should get one. It seems to be a decent kids show, and has some interesting stuff.

Episode 25. I'm not really sure what to think of this. Most of the content is fine by itself, but considering it's the season finale, it doesn't come off very well.

Flora angsting because of something all in her head. This got old 10 episodes ago. At least Crystal is trying to help her. Elaborate dance sequence showcasing the progress each character has made with something. Nice to see they remember Aisha likes dancing. Nothing too interesting, though Musa getting the whales is something I guess. Flora and Helia finally wrap up their nonexistent problems. Helia continues to bore me with his very presence. The whole thing isn't bad in theory, but it went on far too long. When I saw this in Italian, I wondered why this was there. Having seen the season 6 trailer, it appears that season will feature lots of dancing. This was probably practice. Can't say I'm looking forward to that.

Now Tritannus and Icy are targeting any fairy with Sirenix. Too bad the only known ones are the Winx. Why target Aisha in particular? There's no indication she has a better understanding of Sirenix than anyone else, and they're going after what may be the most difficult target. Family grudge I guess? Flora's new stone is needed to gather an army of Selkies. That seems so much easier than the alliance, and probably much more effectual too.

Giant battle sequence. It's been too long since Winx has had a proper one. The Winx decide to hold back and mostly use their shields to fight their way through. And they're still winning pretty easily. The Selkies are actually pretty useful. I'm not surprised, as they've proven fairly strong in groups. Aisha, Tecna, and Musa do most of the physical fighting. Bloom does some too, while Stella and Flora stay away from it. Seems appropriate to me. Nereus decides to be a liability and fight his brother. Aisha kind of just sits there watching. And then has trouble wit two mutants for some reason. Then Nereus is fatally injured. He really should've just stayed home. Aisha proves she's better than everyone by smacking the lovebirds aside. Sounds good to me. She gets an emergency wish, which is useful, but ultimately is disappointing as nothing is really changed. Then she gets stupidly captured and drained, leading to the finale.

There was some good this episode. The big fight was actually good. The Selkies proved useful. Flora/Helia drama finally finished, even if it took too long. Should've happened sooner. Aisha was cool for 30 seconds. Then she gets jobbed hard. In her own season. During the finale. That should not happen. And yet, the green fish still fails to impress. Next episode, he finally gets his chair working. Too bad things won't work out for Icy. Aisha prepares to sit on the sidelines, Bloom gets to hog the spotlight, and the rest of the Winx decide to go elsewhere. Also, Tritannus makes what should be a devastating blow to any planet laughable. This season is finally just about over.

And so it ends. Episode 26, the final episode of season 5. It was predictable, thus mediocre.

I know Flora has been a liability all season, but I think she would've been more useful in facing Tritannus then Nereus. Aisha and Daphne get to sit on the sidelines for the final battle. Wonderful. Got to let Bloom have all the glory. Green moron finally gets his chair working. Poor Icy thinks she's going to get somewhere in life. Tritannus goes crazy from the power. Turns out he couldn't handle it after all. Darcy and Stormy show up to save Icy's ass. Then they all get blasted away. So much for Politea's power. Still, those three got off pretty light all things considered.

Mutants are more evil now. Heading to Andros, because why not. Then Tritannus decides to flood the planet. You know, that would actually be threatening to any other planet. Too bad he targeted the ocean planet. Populated mostly by mermaids. This has got to be lamest world ending scheme successfully enacted. Two people are shown to be threatened. And if the king and queen don't have a way to get to safety, they probably deserve to drown. Looks like the Andros military is conscripting women again. Them and Roy versus a small army. Then the four extra Winx arrive to save everyone. I get the feeling the writers didn't know what to do with them, so they just shoved them aside.

The final showdown. Bloom and Nereus vs. Tritannus. Should be an epic battle right? Nope. Big green tanks a few hits, Nereus knocks his trident away, Bloom blows it up, and everything is solved. If only all their problems could be solved so simply. Seriously, Tritannus was pathetic all the way through. Season 1 Icy was a bigger threat than him. The Winx could've smacked him easily in episode 2. They had him in episode 13. They had him again in episode 19. It's not a good sign when you have to contrive situations to make your bad gut threatening.

Time to wrap everything up. Tritannus still hates everyone. No surprise there. Getting banished is an appropriate punishment. Plus it leaves him open for a future return. Unlike the Wizards of the Black Circle, I hope he's never mentioned again. Bloom gets her wish, break the Sirenix curse. Which didn't affect anybody in the present day. What a waste of a perfectly good curse. At least Daphne is corporeal again.

Party time. Lots of people that had nothing to do with this come. I bet they're here for the free food. Seeing a more human Daphne without her mask is a nice treat. Band time. Bloom is still the lead singer. I'm still annoyed at that. Song is okay I guess. Helia does a little trick, which is making me think he has some magic potential in him. Hopefully that's addressed someday. We close off with Bloom and Daphne dancing together.

So, that was a finale. Bad guy is defeated, everyone is returned to normal, and everything is fixed. Nothing special really. There are plenty of loose ends though. What will the Trix do now? Will Musa ever use her wish? How will Daphne adjust to rejoining the living? Will the alliance ever do anything? Will Flora continue to be a punching bag? Are the Winx ever going to get away from Alfea? Is the show worth following any more? All that and more will hopefully be answered next week, when season 6 starts. I'll be doing final impressions of season 5 later on.

And so we get a teaser of season 6 with Inspiration of Sirenix. It's basically like The Lilo in that there's really no connection with the actual plot. The opening is mostly fine. Too much dancing. It indicates Daphne will be a constant presence. There's the two new guys and the new witch. The Trix have a new look. Most importantly, the pixies are back. Good. I liked them.

Icy is still out for revenge. She really should try out for something else. The other two are just following her because they have nothing better to do. Icy's deluding herself if she thinks this creature is the one that will finally destroy the Winx.

So Daphne is not used to being corporeal and thus is clumsy. Reasonable I guess. This also means she has little confidence in herself. Can't blame her, seeing how she did nothing last season. Everyone has gathered for a party. Daphne doesn't like the attention. The Winx make her conform to themselves. So much for personal style.

Trix attack. Is the Domino palace going to become the new Alfea? A place where villains can walk up to and attack whenever they're bored? Monster is tough, Trix are nothing special, nothing new. Only Daphne can control it despite the Trix clearly controlling it. Almost makes me wish Roxy was there. I like how the Winx can just go to Magix on a whim, then come right back a few minutes later. Trix follow and get stomped easily. Daphne is inspired and tells it to go away. All is well.

Not a great episode, but for a standalone it's acceptable. This one episode has made me more endeared to Daphne than every previous episode combined. Winx and Specialists are still themselves. We probably won't start the rest of the season for a few months. When it does start, I'm not getting my hopes up. Now the Winx are students again. Ugh. The show needs to stop relying on that place. Daphne is a history teacher now. Why? Don't any of our princesses have duties on their planets? We'll be seeing Cloudtower and Griffin again, so that's nice. New villain does have a nice concept. We'll see if she puts it to good use.

Dang, Daphne is gorgeous.

And also, I'm loving the continued use of pants for the next power, there is just something mature about it.

Dang. I wasn't expecting Tritannus to live as long as he did. And not that apologizing would help, but I agreed with the comments by others that Oblivion realm should have been thought more about. They could of at least put him on trial or something... but yeah, Tritannus is just power crazy and angry. So while they can't risk it, it is still an odd punishment.

Season 6 starts off properly with two episodes. Episode 2 starts off with lots of whams, both good and bad.

Daphne is the new history teacher, and the Winx are students again. Why? Seriously, there really needs to be an explanation for this. Tecna amuses me again with shrinking everything down, including Kiko. Stella is still working on her fashion stuff, so that's nice. Writing feels better at least. Faragonda has been teaching at Alfea for 100 years. She's older than I thought.

Then the pixies enter. I was looking forward to this, seeing how the pixies were great. But we have some serious problems. Lockette, Amore, and Chatta are all fine, even with their redesigns from Pop Pixie. Piff actually looks a little older, which is also fine. Then we have Caramel(Cara) replacing Digit and Cherie replacing Tune. Not cool at all. Very bad actually. Digit was my favorite pixie, and now she and Tune are replaced by random newcomers? Now, I did watch Pop Pixie, and I did like Caramel and Cherie, but this is not acceptable. Bad start. In case your wondering, I believe Caramel is the pixie of super strength, while Cherie is the pixie of weather.

Cloudtower time, which only had a cameo last season. Griffin welcomes the new students, but the other teachers aren't present. Selena reveals she's from Earth. This requires some sort of explanation that I'm not certain we'll get. Most importantly, how did she get the Legendarium? The book is pretty powerful, unleashing a wave of monsters in Pixie Village. The Winx go their to help out, and the fight feels a lot faster without the Winx shouting their every attack. I noticed Zing seems to still be a girl, which means they didn't lift everything from Pop Pixie. No sign of Digit or Tune. Thankfully Griffin puts a stop to all this, but Selena secretly trapped the pixies in the Legendarium.

Suddenly the Trix attack and beat up Griffin. Griffin feels like she only exists to get beaten up. Also, apparently she's over 200 years old. First, very impressive, much more than they were last season. Second, I guess they ditched Sirenix for some new forms. These look better anyway. Third, how did they get so powerful? I won't accept no explanation. Thankfully, season 5 had Darcy and Stormy steal Politea's power, so if there's no explanation I'll just assume that. Griffin gets turned into a crow, but she escapes. Some of the students are afraid, while others are excited to follow the Trix. Selena of course is singled out as their new apprentice. Cloudtower takes to the sky. The Winx find Griffin, and Bloom knows someone who can talk to it. Please let it be a certain animal fairy who's disappeared.

This is how you introduce your villains, with a bang. Both Selena and the Trix make a good first impression, so I can see the Winx actually struggling this season. The writing and action feels more polished. Hopefully that will stay consistent. Returning to Alfea is annoying, but not hugely so. The pixie issue is, and so far it's my main sticking point with this episode. Still, I actually find myself looking forward to more episodes. Episode 3 to come soon.

Edit: Episode 3 continues where we left off. Likewise, I have good and bad feelings about it.

Roxy is indeed helping out, getting a bigger role then she did in all of season 5. The Winx remain oddly unworried about Pixie Village, which makes them seem uncaring. Musa doesn't know how to keep it down. Tecna seems to be shrinking a lot of things this season. One of Digit's powers was shrinking. Connected? Probably not. Still irked about Digit and Tune, though I don't hate Cara and Cherie. Timmy is the one that contacts the Winx. Guess he's keeping closer contact with them.

The Specialists are training on Lynphea for some reason. At least it's a change of scenery. They're competing against some Paladins. One of them, Thorin, is Sky's cousin. Seeing how Brandon didn't know about it and how Sky said it's a long story, I'm mildly interested. Thorin gets a hammer of course. Sky's new sword shoots energy waves. Maybe they'll be useful in fights again.

The Winx head to Lynphea College. Looks nice overall. Flora goes to meet Miele. She's grown up a lot, considering it's only been about 3 years since we last saw her in-universe. Definitely nice to see her again. Now if only we could see someone from Tecna's family. One of the Paladins flirts with the Winx, and Roy challenges him, getting his ass kicked.

So the Trix are going around conquering colleges in the Magic Dimension. What a coincidence that they choose Lynphea first. I guess this a statement regarding the importance of education? Selena seems to want to impress the Trix, bringing the Treants to life. Like the trolls, they're not very tough for the Winx, but the numbers and bystanders keep things tricky. Miele's brief transformation was awesome. The Winx storm Cloudtower and meet witch resistance. Regular Cloudtower students aren't going to challenge them. I like how Selena is afraid of the Winx. It's a nice touch for both the Winx's reputation and on Selena's confidence on the whole thing. The Trix aren't overpowering, but they give a decent fight. When attacking Selena, the Winx minus Bloom lose their powers.

So the Winx are randomly defeated. Not really fond of that, but the Legendarium seems really powerful, so I'll let it slide. I do like how the Paladins are still heroes, even if they're jerks. Winx and Specialists retreat, leaving the Lynphea College and staff to fend for themselves. I'd hope that Lynphea's own forces come to help them out, but I have little confidence in that. Back at Alfea, Roxy gives Griffin speech, and Faragonda realizes what happened. Bloom still has powers because she's just that strong. Then she gives the others some of her own power, which will be the source of the new transformation. I should be annoyed, but I'm just glad the Winx aren't going to be completely powerless for a while.

Another good episode. Writing and action are better. The Paladins could be neat. The Specialist's new weapons should make them more useful. Seeing Miele again was a nice touch. There's still some issues, namely ignoring the pixie's plight and Bloom being the source of the new powers, but I'll let it slide for now. Perhaps this season will actually be good. Next episode doesn't look impressive, but this season has been surprising me so far. Winx are doing boring training while nobody helps Lynphea.

Winx returns with another two episodes. I do hope this doesn't become a trend. First off, yes Bloomix is a stupid name. No, I don't care. After Believix I gave up on caring whether or not the transformation name sounded off.

Lynphea college falls, and no one helps them. Predictable. Winx decide to goof off instead under the guise of training. I'm noticing this a lot this season. Stella's priorities are still right where she wants them. I guess the Paladins are joining the group for now. Weren't there four of them? Stella is comparatively out of shape. Typical. Daphne/Thorin + ship 1. I'm seeing an annoying Aisha/Roy/Nex love triangle. Nex of course is a jerk. Haven't seen Flora's potions for awhile.

Bloom thinks she can solo the Trix, since the Specialists aren't going to be much help against anything except regular witches. Seems reasonable. Trix are still fairly smart. Miele gets to be cool. That's nice. Regular witches suck. Potions are instant victory. More monster fodder from Selina. Specialists decide not to slow Bloom down. Turns out Bloom actually can take on the Trix by herself, if not win.

Stella takes out a monster by luck. Figures. Flora is so awesome she gets her Bloomix. I approve. The transformation is okay, while the outfit is nice. Flora solos the remaining Treants. Even the weakest member of this club is ridiculously powerful. And the bad guys can't even reliably depower them. Roy and Nex get petrified, which makes me think just being Aisha's love interest is a danger.

The first episode was okay. It does make me wonder why they even bothered depowering them if they're just getting right back up an episode later. The thing that bugs me most are the Winx not taking things seriously. At least the guys are cool.

Episode 5 picks up with Flora taking charge, since she's now the strongest one there. Never thought I'd say that. Stella and Aisha get their Bloomix together. That was fast. And not as impressive as Flora. Both of their transformations are decent. I like Stella's Bloomix, but Aisha's is good too. And with that, GG remaining enemies. Trix wisely run away. Flora and Miele get their last moment together.

Winx are regular students. I know I've complained about it before, but I'm still annoyed. Stella continues to be a terrible fashion designer. Not sure what a music college has to do with history. I'm guessing Daphne just wants an excuse to go for her own amusement. Musa is excited. Riven kind of ignores Musa. Musa sulks about their relationship. Here we go again. Then Musa and Tecna start arguing. Don't think we've seen that before. Tecna isn't the best at sympathizing with other people's problems. Musa is acting self-centered. Yeah, I feel for Tecna here. Music can get distracting when you're trying to work. Pixies try to be relevant.

Musa geeks out. Daphne meets an old friend. Are the Winx the only students there? Looks like someone noticed the Trix's unexplained power boost. Icy is pouting over their recent loss. At least she recognizes their new weapon isn't enough on its own to win. And then there's a spirit inside the Legendarium. Asharon, if I got the name correct. Looks like we have our season's Big Bad.

Musa continues to geek out and tells a story. Tecna is keen on emphasizing that it's just a legend. Not sure why, considering what they've been through. Then again, there are probably a lot of stories and legends that aren't true. Selina conveniently summons the monsters Musa was talking about. Musa then goes off on Tecna. Tough girl to please. Cara gets stuck somehow. Hopefully she'll pop back out as Digit.

Monster attack. I like seeing the different transformations together, even if only briefly. The transformed Winx fall instantly. Bravo. Musa and Tecna work well together, even when they're arguing. At least they know how to keep it professional. Though Musa can't resist a dig at Tecna. Musa did most of the work, and both of them get Bloomix. That was really fast. Four new transformations in a single episode. Better than Stella/Aisha though. Musa's transformation is okay. Tecna's is the best, as usual. Their costumes are fine. Monsters go down. Musa and Tecna make up. Tecna is cool enough to come up with a solution for Musa playing in their room. Trix attack Eraklyon. Why not. Diaspro decides evil pays better and joins the Trix. I should be annoyed, and I am, but at this point I hope she settles on a consistent characterization. She's gone from jerk victim, to victim, to love-induced evil, to jerk, to straight up evil. I don't hate her, but she's overstayed her welcome.

Episode 5 was better and continues the trend of season 6 being better than season 5. There are still plenty of problems, but they're bearable. Getting Bloomix was rushed. This entire season feels rushed so far. Musa got her own episode, and Tecna got some spotlight too, so that's nice. Next episode Daphne is confirmed to be crown princess and gets a celebration. Didn't we have one for her four episodes ago? Also, Diaspro decides to get her hands dirty. She's not lasting long.

I do like how they rotate who gets the transformation first. Charmix had Bloom, Enchantix had Aisha, and now Bloomix has Flora.

Don't be afraid to repeat stuff. Any discussion would be nice.

It looks like the next two episodes are airing together in January. Looks like this will become a trend. One that will likely backfire, though I suppose it's better than waiting four months.

So as someone who's never gotten into the series, is it worth watching the compilation movies, or just watch the cruddier 4kids dub to get up to speed?

Neither. Watch the RAI dub.

Alright, a real comparison. The RAI dub is very faithful to the original aside from changing Aisha's to Layla, but everyone except Nick did that. The main problem is that the voices aren't that good at first, though they get better. The 4Kids dub changed plenty of stuff and transitioning into the later seasons once it ends can be more difficult. It is watchable if you absolutely hate the RAI voices though from what I've heard. The Nick compilations miss a lot of things. The first 3 cover season 1, while the last covers season 2. Don't bother with them unless you have no time, especially since season 2 was the best season.

My recommendation is to watch RAI the first two seasons. Then season 3 in either RAI or Nick. Then the Nick dub of the first movie. Then season 4 RAI or Nick. The second movie can be watched before or after season 4, but avoid the Nick dub, as it's cut in half. Seasons 5 and 6 are Nick only.

Turns out I was wrong and only one episode aired. It was okay.

I don't care if Diaspro gets redeemed or not; I just want her to stay consistent. She's gone from jerk victim to victim to evil to jerk to evil again. And she sucks at being evil. Darcy and Stormy still seem to not be taking this whole universal conquest thing seriously. Selina is starting to bore me.

Daphne is officially crown princess. That's fine. Bloom would make for a terrible queen. Why is Bloom just getting weak now? It's been at least a few days. Oh god they really are shipping Daphne and Thorin. Stella is still a terrible fashion designer. Diaspro is here to fail at evil. Pixies don't do anything productive. I know I was excited about them returning, but between losing Digit and Tune and them not doing anything I'm starting to question why. At least they're kind of amusing. Thorin was kind of a coward a decade ago. Why is that an issue? He hasn't backed off from a fight that we've actually seen.

Domino palace really is becoming the new Alfea. The Winx themselves are still in absolutely no danger. Diaspro shows she can still fight a bit and leads the idiot to wear Bloom can be offed. Then she actually throws her in. I think she's getting better at this whole evil thing. Too bad he's still after Sky. Still don't understand why. Daphne, fly down and catch your sister. Turns out Bloom can handle herself after all. Diaspro runs away to fail another day. I'm slightly surprised she escaped. Her Bloomix is fine. Daphne/Thorin is going way too fast, but other than that it's okay.

An average decent episode. Diaspro finally becomes a half competent antagonist. Thorin is starting to look more interesting than Sky, though that's not a high hurdle. Next episode we finally continue with the plot. The Legendarium and Selina are already getting stale, so hopefully this will make them more interesting.

Necroing to ask if anyone is watching World of Winx. The first season came out back in November and season two will be out a week from now. The first season brought me back to the franchise and while it wasn't the greatest I still enjoyed it immensely.

That's because it's a Netflix series so unless you know any sites that rip from Netflix and who would have ripped it...

Unicorn of War is a Youtuber with several interesting Winx Club analysis/retrospective videos, including this short review on the series.

I never liked the cartoon as a kid - I was a WITCH kid - but it is still interesting from a historical standpoint, both as a Magical Girl cartoon and Italian cartoon that made it big intentionally.

Iginio Straffi has recently confirmed plans for the future of the series. This includes:

- a full-scale theatrical movie (either live-action or a fourth 3D film)

- another attempt for the franchise to enter the American market (my big bet is Netflix since they have World of Winx and Fate. And Nick hasn't aired the series since early 2014 while Nick Jr. last aired it in 2016, meaning they are done with the series)

- Possible Trix origins spin-off (hopefully it can ignore the retconned Icy backstory in season 8)

- new seasons for both Fate and the cartoon (S2 and S9 respectively)

These are just suppositions and could likely change in the foreseeable future
