This is about an animal in a work being named after a real life animal. It's a new page and it seems to be a trivia article rather than a trope.

Well, not just names, references in general. I'm quite unclear on the whole trivia vs trope thing, but this did go through the whole YKKTW process, with three hats besides me, so I think someone would have brought it up earlier on. And Tuckerization, the trope most similar to this, is even more trivial (names only), and is considered a trope rather than trivia. What's the difference between trivia and trope? (Haven't seen any page classified as trivia except a work's subpage)

Trivia is things about the work's creation that aren't evident in the work itself. They're put on the trivia tab instead of the main tab. They're interesting and being trivia doesn't mean that it's not a good page. Just that it doesn't go on the main.

Ah, okay, thanks. That helps. Well, I guess just leave it for now and see what others think. xD

I think that this would count as trivia. Unless it's lampshaded in some sort of Breaking the Fourth Wall moment, it wouldn't usually be obvious that the fictional animal was in some way based off a real animal.

Well, I suspect it would be safe to assume that any horse named Bucephalus (or however you spell that) is probably named after the historical horse that helped Alexander The Great conquer half the world. But yeah, trivia.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.

Well, it was put in the crowner in the "Regarding the trivia namespace" thread in the Special Efforts subforum.

If this becomes trivia, then shouldn't all Shout Outs be trivia as well?

There's no trivia banner on the Shout-Out main page.

Well, color me bamboozled. I'm pretty sure it was decided as such in Special Efforts.

Shout-Out is still a point of argument in the Trivia thread - it fits the definition as far as being relevant mostly outside the work, but it's also very much in the work and visible.

Probably best to leave discussion of Shout-Out to the appropriate thread; suffice to say, there are arguments for and against it being trivia.

This one, though, I think is a bit more clear-cut - it's trivia.

Yeah, Shout-Out's not Trivia.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Is there anything more to discuss than whether or not this is trivia? Because if not, it should probably be locked and everyone should just go vote in the crowner.

132 is the rudest number.

I agree, let's vote on it, I don't think there's any more to discuss. (Having been around for a few months since that last post, I'm now a lot more familiar with trivia pages, and agree that it's better off as trivia.)
