and of course I fully expect the average american news source to paint him as a lazy failure.
Don't they do that to anyone who isn't in a job anyway?
Well, yeah. Especially if theyre on unemployment. Generally the US culturally has an odd habit of seeing people like this as people trying to "cheat the system"
System? What system? A social safety net as thin as human hair, and as weak as the Europhobe's arguments? Yeah, totes cheating. If they did cheat, they'd probably get the equivalent of our basic safety net here. And that's low.
This guy seriously should be promoted as a Rosa Parks of sort for better health care.

Of course, this whole deal could be gotten over with quite quickly.
Somebody offers to give that poor dude health care pro bono. Judge dismisses charges. And we woudn't have to endure the travesty of having to jail a dude so he can get much needed repairs.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.... I just clicked on the link in the OP, scrolled down, saw the photo, and just kinda lost it. I'm not sure, why, but holy crap that guy looks... like... intense. That is an amazing photo. Holy crap. It's downright scary.
... What, discussion about healthcare? Oh.
Yeah, America, you suck. Good luck with that!
I'm gonna say, and I'll say it again about this story.
WHAT. THE.FUCK.
