That explains a lot of things.

If a chicken crosses the road and nobody else is around to see it, does the road move beneath the chicken instead?

Meh, hunter-gatherer societies are a dead end. Wandering around to collect food and then just sitting around to eat it seems to me the dullest state of existence imaginable. Oh, except when you're female, get pregnant and have to give birth without any form of medical aid. Then I imagine it gets quite interesting for the party in question.

That and "oh they are so well off" strikes me as rather daft to be honest. I wonder how many potential societies died when they got driven off the good land by another group or a better "led" group.

I'll agree with you on that. However, there are movements of modern world people that opposes efforts to integrate the hunter-gatherer communities into mainstream societies. Stating preservation of tradition as a reason. I do not share this sentiment.

I am starting to hate "tradition" almost as much as I am the word "honour".

[up][up] I agree. Maintaining diversity for the sake of maintaining diversity is something that really irritates me. But this is getting a bit off-topic.

Agreed, but this could be used as an argument against anarchy. That humans could end up with a very wretched existence without the modern amenities and infrastructures.

I know Somalia is often seen as a strawman in anarchy debates, but I genuinely believe that the current wretched state of existence there is what would naturally emerge from a state of anarchy.

Why? The places that most approximate anarchy also happen to be the best places IMO.

So which places aproximate "anarachy" again? Because tbh as you are allowed to define "anarchy" as "Hunter-gatherers" other people have just as much right as to declare it "Somalia".

[up][up]You mean the hunter-gatherer society ?

some hunter-gatherer is peaceful, but some quite violent and warlike. like yamamamo on Amazon. having more people die through murder than naturally is not ideal society.

beside hunter-gatherer can not be scale up. hunter-gatherer that have a lot of people, develop hierarchy and law.

"Anarchy" is basically synonymous with classical democracy.

Getting rid of all authority is unrealistic. Destroying all coercive authority is a possibility.

As long as the new guys in charge lack an armed body capable of forcing people to submit to their decrees, any natural, non-coercive and non-intrusive form of leadership is acceptable.

However, coercive authority needs to die in a fire. As soon as a government is willing to criminalize a significant part of its population, it's time for that government to be abolished. It's actually quite simple: People's right to do with their own lives as they damn well please should not be abridged for the sake of the latest social engineering pet project the fucktards in power have.

@Barkey: You want to form a group of shooters and like-minded individuals, hang a few crazies, and for a government out of people who actually fought the anarchist hordes? We could totally set up our own form of government.[lol]

I don't consider direct democracy government.

Why?

Direct Democracy still has rules, regulations, bureaucracy, administrators, etc. Take a gander at Switzerland or even parts of New England. There is still order and organization there.

First of all anarchy does not mean no rules or organization. Second Switzerland is very far from a pure direct democracy.

First of all anarchy does not mean no rules or organization.

If someone could explain this particular facet of anarchy I would be grateful (Not picking on you Love Happiness, I've seen this particular claim made many times). Rules and organisation matter only when there is enforcement to back it up*

. Otherwise you can just say "I don't wanna" and be done with it. Rules and organisation will always lend themselves to power structures.

In principle, there can be enforcement of certain rules without unaccountable authorities controlling the meting out of punishment. That is all.

People can consent to order, structure and even hierarchy.

The most important thing in interpersonal anarchism is mutual consent, and that kind of structure arises in many contexts outside "enforcement".
