Accel World

It is by the same author (which is why I put that post in this thread) and has a number a similarities with Accel World, but they are two completely different stories (for the record, here is the AccelWorld translation project). What are those similarities you ask?

• Accel World
  • direct link to internet (and the virtual world) anywhere
  • AR-MMO-RPG
    • fighting game
    • Only 10 "levels"
    • skill is very important
    • World is based on the real world
  • main character has extremely unusual abilities and attracts the most admired person in school
  • Drops you right into the game "already-in-progress"
  • Created by an unknown scientist for an unknown reason
  • players can be drawn into fights without warning
  • can never play again if they loose to much
• SAO
  • A helmet accepts all electrical currents from the brain as command inputs and creates it's own electrical output to the brain (AKA: If you make eating motions in-game, it intercepts the commands your brain gives—so you do not move—and causes you to "recall" what the food tastes like.)
  • VR-MMO-RPG
    • traditional level/skill-based gameplay
    • Little magic, fighting focuses on weapon ("sword") arts
    • Takes place in a fantastical, floating castle with 100 "floors" (the bottom most one has a 10km² base and all have cities and landscaping—including mountains) connected by labyrinth-dungeon stairways.
  • main character is a loner who somehow attracts the "player princesses'" attention.
  • Starts out with the game release/starting, but quickly jumps to 2 years latter
  • Created by a scientist who *spoiler*
  • The log-out button was removed after initial release
  • If the player's connection is interfered with or they die in game, their brain will be fried.

I'm sure there are other comparisons that could be made (especially if true spoilers are used), but the overall effect is two completely different plots.

If they ever turn both into real MMORP Gs, I'd facepalm: I can't play two games and live two lives at the same time...D:

So SAO and AW are related stories happening in the same world? This is why 2012 is gonna be such a sweet year...

Definitely not in same Virtual world, though I didn't see any proof that real world of Accel isn't future of SAO real world.

No not the same virtual world... Though rumors did say that Snow Black Hime might be Kirito and Asuna's child. XD It'd be sweet if that's true since Yui, their AI daughter has the same hair color as Snow Black.

That would certainly be interesting... And I can't think of a single reason why it might not be true. Now headcannon until proven otherwise.

Though you might want to spoiler that bit about Yui being their adopted daughter and an AI. That is the entire plot of one of the side stories.

Finished the first volume of SAO. That was pretty good and oddly concise for something with at least 8 volumes.

Yeah, the progression goes like this:

• Book 1: starting/solo plot (only internet "published" at first. Read the author's notes. It explains the whole thing.)
  • Aria in the Starless Night: ...I skipped it.
• 2: bunch of side stories fit into the timeline of the previous book
• 3-4: Taking the one semi-lose plot-line from the first book and using it to create a new story that deals with the changes in society, technology, etc. (Note: you have to read the side stories in book 2. A character in the last story becomes extremely important and the other characters show up)
• 5+: Read the first chapter, and it looks like it takes the setting created by the events of the previous book and goes in a semi-new direction. Did not read more because it is not all translated.

Though you see what I mean when I say that they could animate/expand ether the SAO arc or reduce the SAO & Fairy Dance arcs to do a 2 season anime.

So I figure that I would try fighting for a bit in that world then realize that I am terrible at it, assuming I survive, then switch over to a merchant build.

By the by in both series the girl is older than the boy. Not that it come up much in SOA.

The second novel is just seeing how many girls he can make fall in love with him isn't it? He's pretty much perfect in it so far.

I'm not going to read the 5th novel. Everything ended to well and I have no desire to read anymore.

Taku you idiot. He's normally so intelligent with the ability to think things through. I really can't believe that he did that.

He has a 70% win rate? I wonder how many fights he has had, and whom he lost agianst. Last we saw he should have had a 33% win rate.

I was just checking out the translation projects for AW and SAO. A few things:

• AW has barely progressed at all
• I read volumes 5&6 of SAO. Even though the main character stays the same and it draws it's back-story from the previous novels, there is a new, second protagonist involved as well and these two novels make for their own self-contained story. I must say, I had forgotten all about some of the events that became important for this plot and it manages to fit into the overall story quite well.
• I found this official crossover between the two series quite interesting. There is some spoiler for events in AW and SAO, but nothing all that important (as far as I can tell). The "interesting" parts are the implications based on the how the device worked and the discussions at the end.

I don't think that Haru's voice fits. It would be fine for his childhood friend though.

So there's some sort of 4 koma thingy for the series up on Manga Fox at least. It's...weird?

Yes it does. It's not like there's very much to catch up on unless a lot more of the LNs have been translated. It's like what 10 chapters in?

I find the crossover interesting since it implies that Accel World is the future of Sword Art Online, and Kirito basically won.

1:40 into the first episode. I'm already happy with how they are introducing the story

I already see complaints about what Haruyuki looks like, with people calling the anime garbage because of him. *sigh*

I see the first two episodes are out but they are low quality web versions. So who is subbing this?

@Belian: The manga didn't progress much. But I think they'll follow the LN instead.

Why am I not the least bit surprised? In fact, that is part of his whole character.

I can't wait for them to get a better idea of how involved the story is.
