[up] Really? Because the Teeth of Naros is much easier to get to from the beginning area, and it doesn't have a level warning.

Considering that Dead Kel came first...

Well, where my Fateless One was at the time I chose to go DLC a-going, the Teeth one involved less travel time and loading screens.

There has to be stuff I can spend money on that isn't weapons and armor that the stuff I make just now can vastly outclass...

Yes - the materials for the stuff you can make.

Also another reason I would suggest doing Dead Kel first is that Naros has a particular material that makes weapons even more powerful than Prismere.

Ach, I'm having fun at the moment, which is the point of the game for me. I didn't have fun on Dark Souls, which is why I am not playing that just now instead. I reckon on my next playthrough I am just sticking to what weapons and stuff I can get in shops, for a while at least. Just concentrate on alchemy because bugger using just Minor potions.

Got that Destiny just after beating the Teeth dlc. I quite liked it, although it was a bit short for a main quest dlc.

Having a little break just doing side quests before I go pirate hunting.

Finished Dead Kel. Some good stuff in there.

At the moment I have fateweaved. The game is loads more difficult at low skill levels and while wearing cloth armor instead of the plate or leather stuff I usually walk around in. I got killed twice already tonight, which is a very big change from normal.

That reminds me: what did you think of the irony in Naros?

I don't think I noticed any. Apart from the Kollosae in the main city telling me to go and hunt other members of their race.

The irony you were supposed to notice is that the Fateless One (you) gained a fate and became a victim of the very power s/he wielded.

Irony that got undercut quite quickly when I ended up taking the bad person's skull home and sticking it in the trophy cabinet with those of the rest of the idiot bosses that thought my character would be an easy kill.

I had to build that cabinet several stories high though. Balor and Tirnoch were really big-headed, if you know what I mean?

Got this game again because of Tam and Nomuru bringing the thread back to the forefront recently - thanks for that, by the way. Rrreeeaaally enjoying this game since I came back to it. Especially loving the Finesse/Sorcery playstyle.

I'm about level 23 or so now - i'm assuming I should start the Legend of Dead Kel DLC first? Can I start it at my level?

I started it as soon as I beat the main campaign.

Amalur is a lot like New Vegas, in my view. You can do the DLC in any order, really. It's down to your personal preference - do you want to do the one with the pirates, or do you want to do the one with the big stone giants first? I did the giants one in my playthrough because it was easier to access from where I was at the time, and didn't take as many loading screens to get to.

I did Dead Kel first because it was the first DLC campaign to come out. Having to wait for ages to get Teeth of Naros was also a letdown, but it was so worth playing.

I mean, what other RPG out there would allow you to govern your own island and have your own wife, AND potentially befriend a whole race of enemies?

Could we not just fund a purchase of the franchise with Kickstarter? And get more games?

Said purchase would have to be spending tens of millions to buy it back from the state of Rhode Island.

Rhode Island's civic leadership know that they will never see that kind of money. They won't admit it publicly because votes.

I reckon a couple of million tops would do once things are no longer in the public eye.

We need a billionaire gamer to buy the franchise from RI.

Anyone have Mark Cuban's cell #?

Alright, almost "completely" done with the Dead Kel DLC. Thoughts:

  • Really disliked Brattigan at the start. The dislike mellowed out about halfway, although the less we talk the better.
  • Let me see if I can get this straight: The Alfar Navy sank Dead Kells ship however long ago and there were no survivors. I'm then tasked with sailing to Gallows End... to track and kill Dead Kel. I understand what actually happened since i've completed the DLC's story but please tell me I just missed some dialogue there?
  • Very odd placing for the DLC's campaign, IMO.
  • Really enjoyed upgrading the Gravehall Keep. I don't enjoy the Faction-Quests-That-Are-Actually-Tasks clogging up the menu.
  • Post-DLC Campaign content. What!?
  • Fucking. Root Golems. [tup]
  • Perhaps because it's more isolated, I liked the campaign's feel overall. Progress feels all he more addictive on an island you're effectively stranded on where every decision counts.
  • I liked having a reason to keep returning to different dungeons, if only briefly.
  • I love ruling the Gravehall Keep... diplomacy mechanics!? Seriously!?

So yeah, 8/10, I guess? Didn't enjoy the DLC at first but I seriously warmed up to it.

But alas, my time there is almost at an end, onward, then, to Detyre!

It seems the financial problems that led to the company behind this game going down the tubes will not lead to criminal charges, according to this story from Polygon:

http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/30/12331622/38-studios-investigation-criminal-charges

"Rhode Island's attorney general and the superintendent of the State Police there announced the decision yesterday, noting that the Rhode Island taxpayers, who guaranteed $89 million of 38 Studios' debt, would not be happy with it.

"A bad deal doesn't always equate to an indictment," Steven G. O'Donnell, the Rhode Island State Police superintendent, said at a news conference, as reported by The Boston Globe."

No word yet on what they're planning on doing with the IP. Pity. The game was good, well worth the purchase price I paid for it and it's also a shame to see an obviously talented dev team go down after just one outing.

Awww, saw this thread had been updated and was hoping for a surprise announcement.

And I have a bad feeling this IP will just be stored as one of the State's "nick nacks" in some archive.

A real shame - I enjoyed the gameplay and even the world's lore.
