Try using GIMP. Kinda complex for beginners, but it is free to download.

I don't know about "Essentials" but Corel Painter is a great program. I would like to have it again myself.

I got a Bamboo Pen and it came free with Corel Painter Essentials 4.
Is it any good or is there another program I could get? Preferably for free.
