How do you go about drawing? Have you taken any classes on technique or style, or have you started from scratch?

I want to know, because I am planning to go to school for art, and I was wondering if there are any courses or programs to look for outside of basic high school art classes.

I've been drawing since I was three, but I've hit another one of those damn writers/drawer's block phases, where I'm stumped. A bit of inspiration could help.

Drew on and off since late elementary school, but I only really started drawing, inside and outside of class, once I took a drawing course in high school. Then I continued on with the next course, and so forth. I think this was mostly because the classes forced me to keep practicing despite sucking at it, whereas before I just gave up when I got frustrated. But anyway.

As for other programs, do you have a local community center or something of the sort? The one near me offers several different classes, although you have to pay a fee to take the courses.

Every artist is self-taught. You generally don't get into a decent art school without being decent at art. Similarly, no college with focus on more mathematical courses is letting you in if you aren't decent at math.

Art school does give you a good place to practice art for hours on end uninterrupted which of course will improve your skill.

I've never taken any art classes. I would have dearly loved to do some in high school, but the grade eight class was full and then after that they wouldn't let me do the nine and ten ones.

So what little in the way of drawing skills I have I've picked up from tutorials on the internet and practice.

Both. Balance is good. Guidance from a teacher and self-dependance are friends, not directions.

Self-taught; I hate being given art assignments.

That said, if you want to become a professional artist/designer, you're going to want to go to school, because you'll need the credentials.

I'm self taught... I received little education on art-related subjects from Year 1 to Year 6 and pretty much none from Year 7 to Year 9, hence why everything on my Deviant Art is horrific.

This topic is cooler because I don't die in it.
