A mother calls her severely disabled son 'Timmy' sometimes and 'Timothy' other times, depending on what his mood is at the moment.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

Not really. My parents alternate between the long and short version of my name regularly.

OK, good. Timmy/Timothy is actually two people in one body, and to avoid making people suspicious his Mom calls them by different forms of the same name. Sounds like it would work, then.
