Lolita & General Japanese Street Fashion-Inspired Thread

I can't believe I had to make this thread. I don't even own anything with lace on it! XD Miij, I am disappoint. The IJAM one was good, but that subforum's like a ghost town.

(For those of you who're confused, let's just say Japan is weird about what it chooses to pick up on when it comes to adopting English words. Hence, loli/lolita to them only has a perverted connotation when it's used specifically in a porn or fanservice context. Otherwise it just means young girl, and lolita is a type of street fashion where the emphasis is on pseudo-Victorian/pseudo-Roccoco oppulence and fairytale glee.)

So! I hear classic loli's on the rise again. I'm kind of glad of that, honestly; OTT Sweet makes me incredibly uncomfortable, and it's really hard for me to get anyone to take this fashion for anything other than encouraging simultaneous infantilization/sexualization when they see pastels all over everything.

Something I've been kind of wondering - what's the real difference between gal and mainstream fashion in North America? Is the internet bringing them more and more in-line as the years go by? Because when I read Super Gals, which was written in the late ninties and early oughts, I see a lot more of a disconnect between what's on the page and what I remember being big at the time in Canada.

Brand loli clothes really annoy me, just because I've got nice tits and broad shoulders and none of them really accomodate that kind of thing.

@Juan: I know. It's a long-lasting grudge from my childhood when they cancelled Pinky and the Brain/Animaniacs to show Yu-Gi-Oh.

That, and I've yet to find an anime that I actually enjoy. All the ones my friends keep throwing at me are... mind numbingly stupid or nothing but fanservice.

Evangelion was... weird. I wanted to punch Auska so much that it broke my suspension of disbelief. That and the plot was pretty nonsensical.

Also, Hime Gyaru isn't so bad.

Asuka's like that because her mom went nuts and tried to kill her when she was a kid. Hence, severe trust issues that cannot be fixed by sexual healin' for once. I appreciate that, but it doesn't stop her from being oh-so-shakeable.

Disliking anime. The level of vitriol some lolitas hurl at cosplay is on par with how I feel about cat-rape.

I dunno, she was supposed to be hateable. As I rewatched the show, she grew on me, I guess.

Anyway, enough derail.

@Furiko: As far as I can tell, they really only dislike cosplay if someone's confusing cosplaying, say, Nagato Yuki for someone who's actually into the non-cosplay fashion.

O.o ... I don't think I've ever seen Nagato in loli, but now I totally want to; she'd be lovely in classic. Did you mean Mikuru? The redhead? [ninja'd] Dear god that thing is hideous.

@Ivy: I have no idea, but most people into Lolita would be reeeeaaaally quick to point out that it's not Lolita and why it's not.
