Wait... this might not come here but... if "fixing wicks" means what I think it means, what is the purpose then of leaving the old pages as redirects after a rename? Not that I don't like it, to the contrary, but seems as if the purpose was to explicitly avoid using them, so...
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Well sometimes, later, somebody might have missed the news and then uses the old name. We also want to preserve a few wicks in archived pages and any inbound links.
"Wicks" are links from another page within the wiki. We can and should correct wicks during a rename, although it's a tedious job and often gets skipped, especially if there are a lot of them.
"Inbounds" or "Inbound links" are links that point to the page from some other site on the web. We can't do anything about fixing inbounds because we 1) don't know where they are and 2) they're on sites that belong to someone else. The old name is usually left as a redirect if it has more than just a few inbounds.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.It's also good to have the redirect if someone comes back to look for the page and doesn't know it was renamed, so they search for the old page and the new one comes up.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Inbounds, right... I sometimes feel like an idiot for forgetting something like that in teh internets.
Sorry for kinda kidnapping thread
