Just to clarify proper hot tea has the the hot water boiled from a kettle.

Microwaved water is disgusting and weird. :s

Hot, kettle brewed, with just a small amount of honey to make it smooth and slightly sweet. Not super sweet, mind, just enough to take away any bitter tang that may have arrived because I fail hard at brewing times. [lol]

Boiled, a little milk, no sugar (ever). Brewed for at least a minute, then squeezed against the side of the mug to get every last ounce of flavour out of the bag.

Iced Tea is perplexing to me.

I like Apple Tea and such-like. Herbal tea is O.K. but all the while I'm drinking it I'm thinking "this could have been real tea...what have you done, you fool?"

Personally, I like cold black tea with lots of sugar. Screw all you haters! You can't drink hot drinks quickly, and I hate not being able to chug something down.

Green Tea on the other hand? Yeah, that's better hot and sugar-less.

One minute?

Either that's very, very weak or I'm very, very American in thinking strong drinks are best.

For some reason adding milk to Tea doesn't seem right to me. Heresy, I know.

British tea typically comes from India, the crown jewel of their Empire. Indian tea is very strong, thus the steeping time is very short. Milk is added to combat the strength of the tea.

I, however drink my tea without anything added to it.

Well the Chinese drank it straight, on the Indian subcontinent, they liked adding milk and the Turkish liked to add citrus oils. The British just mash it all together.

I really got into tea during my trip to China, where it was free and water was like 60 cents a glass (a really tiny glass).

So I'm very partial to straight green tea, sipped from a small cup, and on the hot side.

You're not supposed to drink tea from large cups...hence they're so tiny.

Tiny sips at a time, no matter what tea(hot ones) it is. And if they're british tea, don't forget to hold the tea cups as delicately and fancily as possible!

The title hot tea or iced tea would have been better :P

For me it depends entirely on the tea. Sun Tea/Iced Tea is nice with ice and sugar.

Early grey is good hot. As is morning thunder and varieties of green tea.

Don't do that, it makes you look like a ponce.

It is unfortunately necessary to do it when drinking very hot tea from thin china cups. But yeah don't do it with anything which won't instantly remove your fingers if you touch them to the side.

@Diamonnes - I'm talking about teabags in a mug, not in a teapot, in which I would of course use loose tea anyway. In a teapot, I would definitely leave longer.

Also, yes, Orwell's way of making tea is definitely one of the best, but I just don't have time for all that most days, unfortunately.

Or if the tea cup has those annoying small handles.

Cups? Proper British builders' tea is served in a chipped mug (preferably stained brown with the residue of years of tea-drinking), brewed so strong the teaspoon stands up, milk and two sugars, cheers. smile

Personally I take mine black with one sugar.

Whatever you do, don't stick your pinky out. It makes you look like a pleb.

I prefer my tea hot. There are far better cold drinks out there. Besides, iced tea doesn't really give you a lot of options...It's just kind of like brew and and add a pound of sugar.

Now for the real question...Frozen hot chocolate?
