Right, so it appears that people in the US put a lot of value on perfectly aligned teeth, so much so that the average kid ends up getting braces for purely aesthetic reasons, while the rest of the world doesn't seem nearly as obsessed, not even the British. *

On the other hand, it appears that in Japan crooked teeth are something of an attractive feature. They're called yaeba, and apparently there's a bit of a following for them.

Ladies Dude

Personally, I couldn't give a flying fuck about someone's teeth so long as they appear healthy and they don't look like a hurricane struck or anything.

Then again, I've always been a stickler for "imperfections" in the shape of a person's face, for example, I like the diagonal alignment of Paul McCartney's eyes ([1] [2]*

) which few people except for those obsessed with the replacement conspiracy seem to have noticed anyway.

While I won't agree that yaeba adds a significant amount attractiveness (with the special exception of pointy canines, which I do agree look cute), I will agree that mildly crooked teeth don't take away from a person's appearance and most people's teeth look fine the way they are.

Nope. I have no problem with British people's teeth. I bring them up because it seems to me they'd at least have some concern for trying to achieve impossibly perfect teeth, but they don't—they just keep their teeth healthy without trying to change the way they look.

...those girls are really cute. Their teeth just add to it too.

I LOVE YOU AGAIN JAPAN. Just give me five minutes though. I'll find another reason to hate you.

Yaeba appears to be a specific type of misalignment, with the second incisors set back from the incisors and the canines, causing the canines to look fang-ish. Am I correct about this?

[up][up]That seems to be what yaeba usually look like, but there appear to be other kinds of yaeba.

[up] I agree wholeheartedly. Japanese pop culture appears to be a massive treasure-trove for attractive dudes.

For me I don't need them to be aligned, but I don't like outrageously crooked teeth.

[up] To each their own. Personally I think a person's teeth don't have to be straight to look fine.

As long as they aren't unhygienic or incredibly misplaced I'm fine with crooked teeth.
The Yaeba thing just seems like an extra specific cultural oddity.

I have braces to straighten my teeth, but I still have a slight overbite and my canine teeth are a bit longer than the rest.

Would you kindly click my dragons?

I had to have braces for six years and two surgeries to make my teeth compatible with my mouth... Bad genetics. [lol] My mom has stereotypical British teeth*

, and she lovingly passed them on to her daughter... I truly truly needed this or I'd have two teeth growing in sideways, one of them on top of a baby tooth that wouldn't fall out on its own, and a rather alarming amount of overlap.

My niece had perfectly lovely reasonably straight teeth with just the mildest of overbites and for some reason she now has braces... My sister definitely fell into the Must Have Perfect Teeth trap with her.

Imperfections in teeth can be quite charming so long as it isn't, well, what my mouth was. [lol]

I have a family history of fangs. There's no other way to describe it—kids at school took one look at the protrusion of my incisors and proclaimed me Dracula. After all the money my family spent to push my teeth into proper position, I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't have looked cooler if they'd been left as they were. At least, cooler by Japanese standards.

On the other hand, I've also been told that having my teeth in their proper place decreases the risk they'll fall out when I get old. Is anyone here a dentist or an orthodontist who can say whether yaeba is bad for teeth?

I actually like croocked teeth better than some of the eeriely straight teeth out there. For instance, this from your Pc Vs Console page.[1]

Is there a trope name for disturbingly straight and white teeth? Because once they get straight and white enough, it becomes gross and uncanny. Super unstraight teeth aren't that appealing, but super straight teeth with no character are just as bad. So for that, I can say I find a lot of crooked teeth very attractive. It has a sort of character. And even some of the heavy cases, it can be incredibly quirky in a good/sexy/attractive way.

Like that guy you posted, he has cute little fangs going on. Gives his mouth character. If you took that away and gave him straight teeth, he'd be a lot less cute. His mouth is about as straight as teeth need to be. Past that, it becomes unattractive.

I have terrible teeth. I have really bad genetics with this. From my dad's side there is this thing where the front teeth are like always not aligned and for some reason we always get what are they called? Calcium deposits? But they're like white patches on the teeth, and my teeth are extremely crooked. Also, we don't have dental insurance, and can't afford any dental treatment without it. I live in the United States, and trust me, it is very easy for bullies if you have bad teeth. It also makes it hard to find friends/boyfriends. Some of them have even told me that's the reason they don't like me. :/

Feotahakari: For the most part, no. Americans just can't tell the difference between health and aesthetics.

I have straight teeth, I prefer straight teeth, and so does the majority of my countrymen. To quote my friend Steve "Nobody wants a fucked up grille".

Now people with elongated canine teeth...

The bare minimum for me appears to be that the two front incisor teeth have to be straight. Everything else can be a bit of a jumble (but the more symmetrical, the better).

And yes, long canines are awesome.

I have slightly crooked teeth myself, and I don't mind crooked teeth on others as long as they don't look like this.
