The way I see it, dividing the tropes by seasons make it more reader/lurker friendly, not less. There are more people who frequent this site than editors.
Now, I admit I was in the wrong when I did not utilize the discussion board before editing. After the positive feedback from the Buffy page, I just continued from there.
The more complicated the trope organization is, the harder it is to keep clean and viewer friendly. About the only trope seperation I think works alright is on the various Star Trek pages that seperates the general tropes from episode-specific plot tropes. Even if editors are careful there is a high possibility of duplicate tropes ending up in different categories because those trope fit into both categories. Unless you're willing to go all out and make completely seperate pages for the different categories (like iCarly or Mass Effect) straight alphabetization is the cleanest. Maybe that's what needs to be done for the Buffy page.
As for organizing by season, I just don't see any real advantage to it despite what others are saying. Besides the Myth Arc there isn't that big of a difference in the episodes between the seasons. With minor changes (taking into account the current series situation) "Hush" could have been in any season, same with "Tabula Rasa" or "Once More With Feeling," probably the three most popular episodes.
And in theory, any major spoiler should be prefaced with a comment on where it takes place in the series so people can know what they are avoiding. For example which one is better:
- Killed Off for Real: In the fifth season finale Buffy dies.
- Killed Off for Real: Buffy dies in the fifth season finale.
As for the discussion tabs, those don't have nearly the same traffic as the forums and should be used for more minor discussions of why certain tropes were eliminated and such. This is a major wiki discussion on media page organization at its core.

Agreed. And the Buffy page is, as I have already said, rife with problems stemming from this reorganization. Early seasons have late season spoilers - making the goal of this reorganization entirely pointless. Duplicate entries and other things.
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. The page is first and foremost for readers, not editors. Chronologically sorting the tropes makes the page easier to read. I totally wish the pages had been sorted this way when I first came here.
If you're trying to add a trope and you don't know what season it's from, it's very easy to work around using the discussion page, which has people watching it who can help.

Rhymes with "Protracted."Which you hope has people watching it. Many work pages do not have watchers. And having to wait months for someone to wander in on this discussion coz someone picked the most arcane sorting method available is not practical, or a good way for Wiki Magic to occur. Only further reason why this should not become a standard practice.
Heck, what do you do when a trope is in more than one episode? List it several times on the page? We do have page length limits, duplicate entries aren't going to help for that.

Some one screwed with the tag and changed it to Buffy The Vampire Slayer for some reason. Fixed.

It was changed to Buffy long ago coz Angel is fixed, Buffy ain't
What is going on with this page?
OK, it's nice that we're stimulating discussion on the season breakage. Fine. But why in the heck do you separate them into seasons and leave the "Character Tropes" apart from the rest? Having a "General" folder is bad enough.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI changed my mind on the season issue. Not because I like the countless splits (hate em) but because it opened my eyes to a great truth. I'm partly at fault for expanding the page to include episode-by-episode tropes. The page is too convoluted for straight alphabetization.
So: split it, or don't. I do not care. A majority of the tropes will get shifted over the episode recaps once we begin them.
I'm a skeptical squirrelHere's my thought: It'd probably be a good idea to flesh out the Recap pages, and send tropes specific to certain episodes to those pages.
Yeah, that seems like a plan. I've got a lot of time away from any kind of work. If we've got pretty much full support for that, then I'm in.
"Are You Now or Have You Ever Been" has already been given this treatment. I could start on Season 5.

Do we still need this thread?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Nope. Does a mod need to close it?

I guess those "Discussion" tabs are just a placebo. Or maybe decoration. Jesus.
