Well I hope to God this sends the message to conservatives that MICHELLE. BACHMAN. IS. INSANE. Not even the most conservative members of the country think that we can claim a hurricane is "justified" can we?

Well I just hope the sane outnumber the crazies. My mom (also conservative) thought that this was an exaggeration from the press. I had to read the quote outloud.

It's a more common pov than I'd like, but I do think it's a case of vocal minorities rather than a majority of people feeling like natural disasters are a direct result of divine wrath. It's just one more way of stirring up fear and resentment, and making people yearn for the 'good old days' that never really existed.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

People have been justifying natural disasters since the dawn of time, and it still happens today. Hurricane Katrina? God tried to punish the gays for Mardigras. The Haiti earthquakes? God clearly trying to rid the world of Africans. The Japanese tsunamis? Looks like God didn't forget Pearl Harbor. Etc. etc. etc.

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -Wanderlustwarrior

But it's another thing alltogether when a candidate for the nation facing the disaster to hold this view. I recall statements like this usually causes a drop off in voters. I wonder if she'd say the same if the midwest was afflicted by a tornado?

I need to stop reading internet comments because sometimes I can't tell if they are being serious or not.

I had no idea we were at war with Egypt! And of course Biblical Law is totally different from Sharia law since Biblical Law comes from "The One True God" while "Sharea" Law comes from a false, christian hating nation. [Eyeroll]

The fact that sharia law even exists as a term with respect to American legislature just goes to show how badly 9/11 damaged the popular view of Muslims. It could not possibly be more blatantly xenophobic.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Hmm. Correction, it could not be more blatantly xenophobic without rendering the politician who used it as a serious topic point immediately unreelectable.

(And this relates to Bachmann because she did sign that pledge against 'sharia law' amongst other things, if any mods are wondering.)

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

I'd bet she doesn't even know what Sharia law means other than "Uh laws the muslims want to enforce!"

Okay there's a tiny glimmer of sanity in her...she opposes SOPA. http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/B001256
