Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

It's not slander if it's the truth.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I bet the wives and husbands of such legislators we going to be watching their partners closely to see if they suddenly switch side after that warning.
They might already know (or suspect) and prefer keeping the matter private (while possibly giving their spouses hell about it in private).
Hell, that deserves a Slow Clap.
Can someone explain to me why people who call themselves conservative want to enact legislation that would give the government increased control over social contracts? As a conservative, this has been confusing me.
If you meet me have some courtesy, have some sympathy, have some taste. Use all your well-learned politesse or I'll lay your soul to waste. The Alabama 2-week stay is actually pretty good - it could have been stretched until summer when SCOTUS rules.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiWell, "conservative" also covers the idea that government should uphold moral standards.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGovernment can't uphold moral standards, as those are constantly in flux and trying to keep up with them would require more legislation that would be in violation of a person's personal liberty. Morality is about as personal as it gets without being your actual organs. We either need a new definition of "conservative" or a new word to describe people who think like me...

Schild und Schwert der ParteiNeoliberal seems best, to me.
I think "classical liberalism" gets closer to the mark.
Though I find it funny that both classical and neo liberalism seem closer to current mainstream conservativism in regards to the government's control of free-market.

If you meet me have some courtesy, have some sympathy, have some taste. Use all your well-learned politesse or I'll lay your soul to waste.I think the classic saying is that those guys' notion of "small government" means "small enough to fit in your bedroom".
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."And go to war with anyone who looks at us funny, although that's not strictly pertinent to this topic.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"He's probably most famous for a previous defiant stand against a federal court decision. It involved display in his courthouse of a monument to the Ten Commandments. (Please discuss that elsewhere.) He also tried to run for president and lost, demonstrating that democracy isn't all bad.

Roy Moore is just spoiling for the next little rock 9 incident, where he stands in the courthouse doors and marshals the national guard to stop gay couples from getting into a county clerk building somewhere
Today I thought Moore had to realize how doomed his crusade was. History books 50 years from now will paint him as a villain. His legacy will be standing in the way of progress. Maybe it was a case of "any publicity is good publicity", I thought.
Then I thought about the comparisons to Wallace. Did you know Wallace's funeral was televised? He has buildings named after him. His most famous act is stopping young people from getting an education, and yet he's viewed with reverence here in this state.
Yeah but didn't he do a Heel–Face Turn on race before he died?
Trump delenda estHe was also a pretty good governor to people who weren't black, which is damning with faint praise on one hand and a touch of Fair for Its Day on another. I mean, Woodrow Wilson reneged flat out on campaign promises to help blacks, but it didn't stop him from being a foreign policy visionary.

I mean, that depends on where you fall on IR theories. Realists and constructivists (like myself) would have differing opinions on him (realists especially would probably consider his foreign policy incredibly flawed).
Well, yes, he did. Maybe in a few decades Moore will have a moral epiphany and all will be forgiven. And then he'll get himself a state funeral, paid for with my money.
Oh, they were probably going to waste it on something anyway.
Wilson committed the cardinal sin in foreign policy of over-promising, which effectively left a nearly-bankrupt Britain and a devastated France to carry global security whilst shackled to the League of Nations structure. Meanwhile, the USA sat and twiddled its thumbs.
He was useless.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiThat was hardly his fault. He lost control of the senate and they refused to approve of his plan, but, when he proposed it, he had control of the senate. It's just that negotiations took time.
But since they clearly aren't satisfied with being second class citizens, she must make them third class instead to teach them a lesson.
Idaho will not be adding sexual orientation and gender identity to their nondiscrimination law.

Alabama’s only openly gay legislator (sic: Rep. Patricia Todd (D) ) is putting her anti-gay colleagues on notice: If they keep espousing family values rhetoric as a reason to oppose marriage equality, she’ll start making their marital infidelities public.
