3xI guess I can buy that. Prejudice can affect people for a very long time.
So it makes no since to me that we get a hard time when we're still going through it and some of us don't handle it as well as some people would like. It's frustrating to be told you're forcing things on people when you're just trying to stand up for yourself.

Well, honestly Morg, I think part of the reason that American Christians can be such blowhards is because is the past presecution Protestants suffered.
This has taught me personally that we can never let the past lead us down the path to becoming the very thing we despise.
OK, so what about the Catholic Church's massive downer on homosexuality? We're not going to blame that on Nero and the lions, are we?
What's precedent ever done for us?Wait, they're still blaming us for Nero? Fuck...humanity really needs some kind of statute of limitations thing on outrage.
They'd never agree on where to set the bar.

WE'RE LOOKING AT YOU, ISRAEL AND PALESTINE.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Since when has the concept of impartial fairness and protocols to ensure this ever been a goer with a group of dyed-in-the-wool bigots? <sardonic eyebrow raise>

Only when it benefits them.

"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Why go for sexism, though? It's not like you're short on options - there's plenty of ways to insult someone/register your outrage without doing the same thing they're doing.
Personally, I can't help but like the sound of a 'National Disown Ann Coulter Day'...
What's precedent ever done for us?I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the right embodies values like caring about and protecting your family yet they allow them to do this. I guess love isn't a thing anymore.
Let's ship her off to the worst part of the Middle East. She can finally live in a society that shares her values. As long as she keeps her face covered, and doesn't leave the house without her husband's permission.
They would probably argue that disowning an openly homosexual (they hate the g-word) child is no different than disowning a child who steals from you to support their drug habit, or is a bank robber or a serial killer. To them we're mentally ill at best, unrepentant criminals at worst. Some of them (not all of them) might go so far as to suggest not honor-killing them (Leviticus 20:13) is an act of mercy in itself.

They see homosexuality as a disease that will consign you to eternal damnation. Any measure taken to purge their children of the sinful gayness is an act of love, even if the love in question is a bit on the tough side (see also, disowning your kid, subjecting them to electroconvulsive therapy, and so on).
Fundamentalist beliefs can be disturbingly logically-consistent once you figure out what premises they're operating from.
What's precedent ever done for us?
Err, a lot of the past "persecution" that Protestants suffered was not being allowed to persecute other people. They wanted to leave England because England wasn't hardcore enough for them. That's been a part of American Christianity from the beginning. There's always been an undercurrent that they are being persecuted if they don't have the right to suppress dissenting opinions.
