@NLK - There are many good RP Gs made with RPG Maker. Sadly, not all of them are or will be finished.
I recommend Star Stealing Prince, Master Of The Wind, Melolune, Starless Umbra, and Alter AILA Genesis.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I understand the basic mechanic is turn-based battles, right?
Likes many underrated webcomicsDepends on the game.
The default for most of the makers is either side or front view turn based (2k3 used ATB), but a lot of games put in the extra effort to make a custom battle system. This became even easier with XP and VX, since you could pick up a "plug and play" script and have a turn-based strategy RPG, an action RPG, conditional turn based, active time battles, etc.
Essentially, if it doesn't require 3D to work, it can be done.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I picked up the Maker, so excited to try it... then I just stared at the interface and silently wept. Who knew Event Flag programming was so complicated?
They assed first. I am only retaliating in an ass way. -The Dead Man's LifeThere are lots of great tutorials out there. I think I even wrote some of them.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Well, keep an eye out for QuestMania, which is the RPG version of TrackMania.
Oh, it'll be FTP, too, I believe.
Jonah FalconOut of curiosity, is anyone else playing with RPG Maker VX Ace? They seem to have fixed most of the things they gimped between XP and VX, although there are still a few annoyances. Overall, I'd consider it an upgrade to both.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I haven't yet bought a license, as I'm still testing things out with the 30-day trial.
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!Heyo! I got RPG Maker VX Ace on steam during the christmas sale, and I'm trying now to make a game with my friend.
I'm just having some noobish problems with the event stuff. Anyone still around to answer some questions?

What's up?

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI got it fixed myself, but maybe you can illuminate why. Also, hey bunny, long time no see. :P
I have an opening cutscene which involved the PC waking up and jumping out of bed before walking north for a space. After the end of the movement, the player would regain control.
My first problem was that the event would repeat itself endlessly, but I got the gist of how to stop that (new event page and a self starting variable) but a new problem cropped up in that the player wasn't able to regain control.
Before I tried the new event page, I tried setting the event to only start if a variable was true, in this case, variable 00001 or whatever. This didn't work. I set it to true using a separate event. when I stopped trying that method, I didn't delete the event setting that variable to true.
I deleted that event, and then the player could move, but it doesn't really make sense to me why the player could move after it was deleted.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryIt seems odd that the player wouldn't be able to regain control after that.
I just did a quick autorun event that moves the player 1 space and then activates Self Switch A, and the second event page is active if Self Switch A is on.
I ran it and it worked perfectly fine, regaining movement and everything.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderThat worked, yes.
But I had a second event next to the first event, which autoruns, and it sets the switch 00001 to ON. I don't know why, but it kept the player from moving when it was there, because I removed the event which moved the player to begin with but not that event, and the player still couldn't move.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryOh, I get what you're saying now. That's an easy one.
As a general rule of thumb, events freeze the player as long as it's doing something, whether it's moving sprites around or setting a variable, whatever. In your case, the one event was continually setting switch 1 to ON, freezing the player in place all the while.
The only exception being parallel process events, autorun events that can run alongside the player moving and other events.

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -Landstanderooooh, ok.
That makes sense. I'll remember now to set a new page when using autorun events. Thanks. :>
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryI've never been much of a fan of autorun events anyhow.
Most of the time you can get away with a carefully placed player touch event or two.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderThis is the first time I've ever used the maker, and the first time I've ever made a game, so I'll figure out stuff as I go along. I'm mainly using this for the opening cutscene.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryAh yes. I got the VX Ace edition at half off during a Steam Flash Sale. $35 isn't bad for something like this. Now if only i had the time to use it...
I seriously have too much time on my hands. I already released three scripts (only two posted on the RPG Maker forums), and am now working on a script to allow free movement. It's mostly working, I just need to bugfix some bugs.
Signatures are for lamers.I've been meaning to get a start on scripting, but eh...I'm lazy.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderGot the free movement script almost complete I think.
...Nevermind. I was gonna say something about advertising, but your post is more about the script than the game.

I'm currently tinkering around with VX Ace Lite, and I guess it's perfect for a little project of mine: a Super Network Wars boss battle collection!
How far will your 20 pesos go?Welp, RPG Maker VX Ace is currently half price on Steam. I might pick it up just for laughs, since I was pretty active in the RPG Maker community back in the R M2k/2k3 days.
You know, maybe I should actually give this a try. It's not like I have anything better to do . . .
What do you mean it costs sixty dollars?
(On a related note, does anyone know if Sphere's any good? It looks a lot more technical, but I'm a game design student, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.)
