Hadashi prematurely launched this YKTTW about naming conventions while the title discussion was still going on and not all examples had been added. My original working title, Exaclty What It Says On The Hat, was criticized as an opaque snowclone and Obviously Named Species and Descriptively-Named Species were suggested as possible replacement but were also considered dull by some. Planet Obvious was offered as a compromise.

I will incorporate the remaining examples from the YKTTW discussion into the article as it stands now while this is being discussed here.

Now I'll try to add an alternative title crowner, which I haven't done before. Wish me luck. - Okay, I created the crowner but how do I connect it to this thread?

By asking a mod to do so, as I have just done.

I think this is a related, but distinct, trope to Call a Smeerp a "Rabbit". We could have a snowclone title (I'd rather not; while the two "Smeerp" tropes have caught on, I find them unintuitive), or a new name along those lines. That said, I feel like a rewrite on the description is also in order - I honestly could not understand the trope from either the name or the description; the examples were what clued me in.

I changed "An alien species is conveniently named..." to "An alien species has a conveniently descriptive name...". I don't see how this could get any clearer. And I don't think this is related enough to Call a Smeerp a "Rabbit" to justify a link. That would just be confusing.

The page has now all the examples from the YKTTW discussion.

Seems like a clear vote. I'll move the article to Descriptively-Named Species tomorrow if there aren't any objections.

Okay, I'm lost again. I can't edit Descriptively-Named Species (which is currently a redirect). What do I do?

Crown Description:

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
