Okay, while I have much more to say later, I'm going to go ahead and recommend that you avoid Science Is Bad at all costs, as I hate that trope so strongly that I dislike writers who use it on a personal level. Frankly, it may offend me more than any other trope - while there are others that are vastly more offensive, they tend to be Discredited Tropes, whereas Science Is Bad is still commonly used today. There are no limits on my hatred of that trope, and I strongly recommend you do whatever it takes to avoid it.
Edit: Apologies for the rant, but that trope makes me angry.
